[The stability of drugs under the conditions of the ultrasonic thermo aerosol (author's transl)].

Under conditions of the ultrasonic thermo aerosol the stability of selected drugs is investigated by estimation of their concentration and by spectrophotometric and thin-layer chromatographic analysis, respectively. Using an ultrasonic nebulizer USI 50 of the common production neither the spectrophotometric nor the thin-layer chromatographic analysis give any sign of destruction processes of the drugs used. As a rule the concentration of the drugs is lower in the condensed aerosol than in the stock solution. For clinical use this decrease in unimportant. Producing the stock solution of nystatin corresponding to the recommendations of the committee "Aerosols in the Medicine" of the Society of Bronchopneumonology and Tuberculosis of the GDR, only very low concentrations of nystatin can be detected in the aerosol. Producing the solution in another way--chosen by us--50% of the concentration in the stock solution can be fund in the aerosol. But this manner of production still needs the approval of the central expert evidence committee.

The follow-up study of skin reactivity to recall antigens and E- and EAC-RFC profiles in blood in asbestos workers.

We have determined cutaneous DTH reactions to SK-SD and PPD and peripheral blood lymphocyte profiles in a group of asbestos workers in two consecutive surveys. It was found that asbestosis and, to a lesser extent, the presence of ANA are significantly correlated with the lack of response to the above antigens. 83% of asbestos workers when tested at a 4 year interval fell into the same two categories of responsiveness (lack of response or response at least to one antigen). The asbestosis cases had lower total lymphocyte count as well as proportions and absolute number of E-RFC as compared to asbestos workers without asbestosis and/or ANA. Furthermore, the latter group showed the lower percentages and absolute number of E-RFC than the matched controls. The presence of ANA is also correlated with lower proportions of E-RFC. However, this is related at least in part to asbestosis.

Non-disjunction in trisomy 21: study of chromosomal heteromorphisms in 110 families.

QM variants on chromosome 21 and silver staining of NOR regions were applied in the study of non-disjunction in 110 families from different parts of Denmark. In 76% of the families the study was informative. Paternal failures were observed in 11% on Funen as compared 23.5% on Zealand. In one family, crossing-over on the short arms of chromosome 21 in the mother and mitotic non-disjunction of chromosome 21 was observed. Maternal first meiotic error predominates in both high maternal and low maternal age. Also in paternal non-disjunction failures of first meiotic division predominate. Two maternally and one paternally originated cases of de novo translocations were observed.

Ritodrine in the treatment of preterm labour. A clinical trial to compare a standard treatment with three regimens involving the use of ritodrine.

In a randomized trial, three alternative schemes of treatment of preterm labour with ritodrine (long infusion, short infusion, and intramuscular injection) were compared with standard treatment by bed rest and sedatives. None of the ritodrine treatments were found to be better in postponing delivery than the standard treatment. However, the Bishop scores of the patients in the standard treatment group tended to be lower than of the patients treated with ritodrine. Moreover, all cases of congenital malformation and polyhydramnios occurred in the patients treated with ritodrine. The incidence of respiratory insufficiency was significantly higher in infants of mothers treated with ritodrine. The mean birth weight was highest in the standard treatment group.

[Peripheral nerve injuries following implantation of total endoprosthesis in the hip joint and their treatment].

The complication rate after 844 implantations of total endoprosthesis in the hip-joint, in the form of postoperative nerve injuries was found to be about 1 per cent. A number of causes may be responsible for nerve lesions, and some of these may be eliminated with a sparing operative technique. Although there are good prospects for the disappearance of paralytic symptoms, meaningful pysiotherapeutic after-care is very important. In the paralytic stage consistent exponential electrotherapy is recommended, and for recurring voluntary mobility active exercises against resistance. This will greatly improve the functional result of an operation with regard to nerve lesions.

Evaluation of the simultaneous estimation of anti-dsDNA and anti-ssDNA antibodies for clinical purposes.

The double-antibody solid-phase assay for DNA antibodies permits simultaneous and quantitative determination of antibodies to dsDNA and ssDNA. Using this method, 170 sera, mainly ANA-positive, were examined for the presence of anti-dsDNA and anti-ssDNA to assess the role of these antibodies in the ANA reaction. It was found that in the SLE group of patients, their ability to respond to dsDNA was correlated with the multiorgan symptomatology of disease. Anti-ssDNA titres are also highest in this group. However, anti-ssDNA titres predominate over anti-dsDNA in other collagen diseases. This predominance increases as we progress from the SLE group to undefined mild collagenosis, because the response to dsDNA decreases more than the response to ssDNA. This observation suggests that the clinical manifestation of the collagen diseases and multiorgan manifestation of SLE is linked with the pattern of response to DNA in the majority of cases. In conclusion, it appears that the determination of both ssDNA and dsDNA antibodies can be of value for the prognosis and management of patients with connective tissue disease.

HLA and antinuclear antibody incidence in asbestos workers.

The incidence of antinuclear antibodies (ANA) in asbestos textile workers was compared with the results of HLA typing. HLA B8 antigen was more frequent in the ANA-positive group as compared to the ANA-negative group. The relative risk of this associati-n is 2.77 (p less than 0.02) without correction for the number antigens tested. A decrease in frequency of HLA A10 in workers with ANA was also found. The results suggest that the development of ANA under asbestos hazard may depend on inherited predisposition of which HLA B8 is a marker.

Diagnostic specificity of autoantibodies. II. Clustering of autoantibodies--role in diagnosis and in comparison to E--and EAC-RFC peripheral blood profiles and immunoglobulin levels.

Clustering of ANA and SMA was evaluated in patients with various internal diseases as a pattern of autoantibody formation. SMA was found in ANA positive patients with chronic hepatitis, undefined collagenoses and autoallergic thyroid diseases significantly more frequently, than in patients without any autoallergic disorders. The incidence of SMA in ANA positive cases with SLE and RA did not exceed their predictable by chance incidence. It was not found that clustering of autoantibodies is correlated with the E and C lymphocyte receptor abnormality as compared to the control group. The lowest count of E-RFC was found in SLE cases which differed significantly in this respect from the control group and also from chronic vasculitis cases. The clustering of autoantibodies is not correlated with hyperimmunoglobulinemia.
