Sixty-eight children with the symptoms of infectious mononucleosis were examined. In 25 of them anti-EBV antibodies were found and in 10 heterophilic antibodies. In serum of 16 children sero-positive to EBV A, M, G, D immunoglobulins were determined as well as T and B lymphocytes. A statistically significant increase in the number of B-IgA, B-IgG and B-IgM lymphocytes, augmentation of T lymphocyte number and polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia were detected.
In infants carriers of Salmonella typhimurium IgA, IgG, IgM and IgD-level in serum was increased as compared with acute period of illness. In the acute state of salmonellosis an increase of lymphocytosis especially of B lymphocytes was observed. The absolute value of T lymphocytes was increased but their percentage was decreased. The levamisole therapy was not effective. On the 2nd day after administration of concentrated IgA preparation (Behringwerke), 20 mg/kg b.w., a rise of IgA level in the stool and saliva was observed.

Experimental studies were carried our on children with extrinsic, intrinsic and mixed type asthma, treated balneologically in a sanatorium. Serum concentrations of immunoglobulins A, G, M, E and D, and serum enzyme inhibitor alpha1-antitrypsin were determined. The results were compared with those obtained in healthy children, and were also analysed in aspects of clinical and aetiological classification of asthma. Authors observed the therapeutic benefit of balneological treatment in childhood asthma. Asthmatic symptoms in children disappeared, or were much less pronounced. Mean immunoglobulin levels, before treatment higher than in healthy children, did not change after treatment, except IgE and IgG. Clinical improvement was accompanied by a significantly increasing IgG level.

The intramolecular distance between the aromatic rings of tyrosine and 4'-aminophenylalanine in Tyr-Gly-Gly-(p-NH2)Phe-Leu was determined spectrofluorimetrically. On the basis of the data obtained, conformation of the analogue of Leu-enkephalin (an endogenous pentapeptide with morphine-like activity) was established. From tyrosine fluorescence quenching and relative enhancement of 4'-aminophenylalanine fluorescence, the efficiency of intramolecular energy transfer between tyrosine and 4'-aminophenylalanine was determined and the average distance between fluorophores was calculated to be about 1 nm.

In a group of 17 children, 6-18 months of age suffering from spastic bronchitis, subpopulations of lymphocytes, immunoglobulin titer and alfa 1 antitrypsin in the sera were estimated. In comparison to a group of healthy children of similar age, the patients had decreased percentage of T lymphocytes and increased percentage of B lymphocytes. Moreover, in a group of sick children we found more frequently D and E immunoglobulins in the sera. On the other hand A, G and M immunoglobulins as well as alfa 1 antitrypsin showed normal levels in the serum.

The IgD content in cord blood was determined in 83 newborns and 203 healthy children of 2 weeks to 16 years. IgD was present only in 2 among 83 tested newborns. The IgD concentration in sera of their mothers was higher than the average IgD concentration in pregnant women. Statistical analysis of data from 203 healthy children showed, that the IgD concentration increases to the age 8-12 years, and then it decreases. In each of the age intervals investigated some percentage of children with undetectable IgD was found. This percentage decreases with age. No significant differences were found in serum concentration of IgD depending on sex of the tested children.
