[Application of homologous tendons and ligaments (author's transl)].

UNLABELLED: The report deals with the postoperative results of homologous cialit-preserved tendons and ligaments in 237 patients with 281 homologous cialit-preserved transplants. This material proved to be equally effective to the autologous and even superior to it when grafting flexor tendons of the finger. COMPLICATIONS: 4.7% disturbed woundhealing, 5.2% infections, 5.5% mechanical insufficiency.

Antipsychotic effects, side effects and effective dosis of the butyrophenone lenperone (AHR 2277).

Three open studies with Lenperone were performed. 50 hospitalized schizophrenic patients were treated 20-30 days with Lenperone. The therapeutic effective dose was 30-50 mg/day. The highest daily dosage was 90 mg. Patients were examined on fixed observation days and the findings were documented by means of the AMP system. AMP data were analyzed at symptom and syndrome level and compared using an analysis of covariance. In the described dosage Lenperone acted only little sedating, strong antipsychotic and caused only a few single extrapyramidal and little autonomic side effects. The dosage is limited because of the effect on heart and blood circulation. Lenperone caused a good improvement of depressive symptoms in the schizophrenic patients. Lenperone was well tolerated and slowed a rapid onset of its antipsychotic effect. It caused a steady improvement of productive schizophrenic symptoms. For better knowledge of the profile of the effects of Lenperone, a trial in depressive paranoid syndromes, for example schizoaffective psychoses, would be interesting; a double-blind trial in comparison to a well-known antipsychotic would be very useful.

[Antipsychotic efficacy in relation to plasma levels of clozapine (author's transl)].

The relationship between antipsychotic effect and side effects and plasma levels of clozapine were investigated in 26 patients. A significant linear correlation was found between dosage and plasma levels of clozapine. All patients were clearly improved. The degree of improvement was independent of the plasma levels in an average range of plasma levels (100 ng/ml-800 ng/ml). Sedation and orthostatic dysregulation occurred most pronounced on the third day of treatment. There was no relationship between plasma levels and these symptoms. After prolonged treatment the degree of both symptoms diminished. The development of tolerance of symptoms is concluded.

[Pulmonary fibrosis after busulfan therapy].

After a short review concerning the side-effect of busulfan (myleran) a case of a myleran lung in a 45-year-old male patient is described who received altogether 408.0 mg myleran, as he suffered from a chronic myeloic leucosis; the special literature is cited and the developmental mechanisms are discussed.

Comparative morphological studies on adjuvant arthritis induced in the extremities of rats, mice, and golden hamsters by intracutaneous injection of Freund's complete adjuvant.

Forty rats, 60 mice, and 60 golden hamsters were administered complete Freund's adjuvant by intracutaneous injections in an attempt to produce the clinical picture of arthritis. 90% of the rats, 25% of the mice, and 40% of the golden hamsters developed swollen extremities similar to those observed in rats affected by adjuvant arthritis. 12 animals of each of the 3 species included in this investigation, which showed macroscopically visible swellings of their extremities, were used for comparative histological studies in order to find out whether the swellings of the extremities of mice and golden hamsters are real inflammations of joints and identical with rat adjuvant arthritis. The animals were killed, at 4-day intervals, between the 8th and the 44th days from administration of the adjuvant. Whereas rats showed the full clinical picture of adjuvant arthritis, mice and hamsters exhibited only inflammatory pedal edema without florid arthritis. The involvement of the joints was confined to a minor focal reaction of the synovial membranes of small individual joints. The results obtained support the view of rat adjuvant arthritis being a species-specific reaction rather than corresponding to a species-dependent, universal principle of reaction.
