Examinations of the section material of fatal cases due to leptospirosis and influenza, as well as examinations of organs in experimental toxic influenza by light and electron microscopy with determinations of the infectious and immune complexes showed leptospira and influenza virus to be capable of causing toxico-infectious shock (TIS) with typical changes in the microcirculatory bed and organ parenchyma. TIS should be considered to be a special form of the course of an infectious process in which different organs may be "shock organs" depending on the tropic properties of the causative agent: in leptospirosis - the kidneys and liver, in influenza - the lungs and brain.

Experiments in mice have demonstrated that in the presence of influenza infection the suppressing effect of virulent shigellae on the secondary humoral and cell-mediated immune response is enhanced. Under such conditions avirulent shigellae can also show suppressing effect which is usually absent in these organisms.
Experimental study in mice has revealed that live virulent shigellae, in contrast to killed ones, suppress the secondary immune response to guinea pig splenocytes, manifested as delayed type hypersensitivity. This suppression is caused by disturbances in the process of the realization of the existing immunological memory: avirulent shigellae have been proved to cause no such effect.

Incomplete form of the influenza virus obtained in accordance with Nayak's method was administered intranasally to mice CBA and C57BL. From the lung tissue of the infected mice the causative agent could be isolated for 45 days, and from the other internal organs--the first hours after the infection only. In morphological investigation of the lungs of animals infected with an incomplete form of the influenza virus a prevalence of the proliferative component against the background of inflammatory changes was noted. Three months after the infection limited lymphoid formations consisting of monomorphic cells with hyperchromic nuclei were defined in the lung tissue. Marked proliferation of the alveolar and bronchial epithelium was observed later; considerable anaplasia of the cells was noted in the papillomatous structure of the alveolar and bronchial epithelium. Glomangioma of the mesentery was observed among affections of other internal organs in 18.7% of mice CBA.
