Cell mediated immune response in mice infected with influenza A (Scotland) 73 (H3 N2) was studied by defining of the leukocyte migration inhibition, in vitro lymphocyte transformation and phagocytosis of S. aureus 209 P by the peritoneal exudate cells. It was found that the infection induces several changes in the reactivity of lymphoid cells which react with influenza antigens. The macrophage migration-inhibition occurs and it sustains until the 14th day. The mitogenic response to phytohemagglutinin weakens but, in the early period of infection the phagocytosis does not change but on the 14th day it also weakens.

Polymorphonuclear leucocytes (PMNL) obtained from immunized guinea pigs possess an affinity to antigen. The guinea pigs were immunized with human serum albumin (HSA) in complete Freund's adjuvant. The ability of PMNL to bind antigen was tested by means of the functional disorders induced by antigen after incubation with PMNL. The "immune" PMNL appeared to be more responsive to antigen when compared to PMNL obtained from non-immunized animals. The antigen decreases oxygen consumption, the phagocytosis coefficient and 14C-glycine incorporation in the "immune" PMNLs in vitro and also induces leakage of some lysosomal hydrolases from PMNL in the course of an 18 hrs incubation period.
The aim of this report was to indicate the correlation between chemical structure and antiviral activity of some biguanide derivatives obtained according to Monsanto Chemicals Ltd. Neth. Appl. 289. 283. The studies were carried out on the culture of monkey kidney cells infected with parainfluenza Sendai virus and on the mice infected with influenza virus. The increase of antiviral activities of N-Phenylbiguanide and N-p-Ethoxyphenylbiguanide was estimated.

The acid phosphatase and protease, neutral protease, bactericidal and mitogenic activities were determined in the polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMNL) lysosomes of 16 years old boys. The investigated group consisted of 20 intense sport training persons during the last six years, the control one of the same age boys without any sport training. The significant decrease of hydrolase activity has been observed in the lysosomes of the peripheral blood PMNL's of the sport training boys.

The influence of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL) and macrophage plasma, nuclei and lysosome extracts have been tested on lymphocytes and fibroblasts growth in vitro. The stimulatory activity of PMNL lysosomes has been shown on lymphocyte and fibroblast growth. The macrophage lysosomes have shown a similar but lower activity. The role of lysosomes has been suggested in reparation and wound healing processes, presumably in inflammatory cell infiltrated regions.
