The frequencies of 29 HLA antigens of the A amd B loci were studied in 130 Israeli Jews originating from Rumania. The antigens A1, A2, Aw19 and B14, Bw16 and Bw35 occurred with the highest frequencies. The most common haplotypes were (A1, B17), (Aw26, Bw16) and (A28, Bw22). These results are similar to those observed in Polish and Russian Jews.
As a result of the progress made in the area of endosseous implants in the last 15 years, the value of the subperiosteal implant has been minimized. Yet endosseous implants are not appropriate for all patients in need of implants. Well-designed subperiosteal implants have been reported to function successfully for many years. Among the relevant factors contributing to the success of this method are implant design, atraumatic surgery, understanding of the involved anatomic structures, accurate impression techniques, and appropriate occlusal adaptations of the final prosthesis. This report reviews the design characteristics of successful subperiosteal implants and the anatomy of the areas upon which subperiosteal implants rest in both mandibles and maxillae based on recent research performed in Rumania.
The frequency of intestinal parasitoses among subjects coming from warm countries is high and its range is similar to that found by other parasitologists in Europe as well as by those who made investigations in groups of individuals in various warm countries. Bearing in mind the pathogenous role--even limited--of certain parasites, their systematic detection and the treatment of every individual infested with parasites appears necessary. The hereby investigations point out the importance of a complex coproparasitologic examination and the high efficiency of some special diagnosis methods. Every laboratory must perform in rarallel several ovoscopic and larvoscopic methods of investigation in view of an accurate parasitologic diagnosis or for a prophylactic control of subjects coming from warm countries. The high frequency of ankylostomiasis raises peculiar problems related to its systematic detection and its compulsory treatment up to the parasitologic sterilization, bearing in mind the past evolution in Rumania of an underground focus, which does not exist any more, having been entirely eradicated.
The lessons of veterinary anatomy, firstly it was called "Zootomie", began in Rumania in 1853 and took place at educational establishments for ambulances and at schools for human medicine. The first veterinary school of the country was opened at the 16th of May 1861. The academically trained anatomy began with Prof. Constantin Gavrilescu. The most famous representative of anatomy was Prof. Vasile Ghetie (1903-1990). His act of life positions him beside the great anatomists of the gone century Schmaltz, Barone and Grau.
Epidemiological data obtained to date show that the delta agent is spread all over the world. In Rumania hepatitis B virus infection is widespread and is associated with a high incidence of chronic liver disease. To determine the prevalence of delta infection, sera from 373 patients with chronic liver disease were tested for HBV markers; 228 were HBsAg positive. Anti-HD was present in 190 sera (83.33%), which reveals a very high incidence and shows a higher frequency of the active forms of the disease. However, in contrast to other studies, we found a high incidence of HDV infection in chronic persistent hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
2500 strains of dermatophytes have been isolated in the town and country of Arad/Rumania in the period between 1956-1980. Trichophyton rubrum was isolated first in Rumania in 1956 by Ilea. At the time it represented only 3%, now 62,56% of the isolated strains. The other results see table 1. The fungi found in the town and county of Arad/Rumania are different from those isolated in Bukarest by I. Cojocaru. The nematode Eudiplogaster flagellicaudatus (Andrassy), a mycophage nematode, is important for the lifecycle of geophylic dermatophytes.
