[Chronic cough related to otorhinolaryngologic disease].

Otorhinolaryngologic etiologies of chronic coughing may be a disturbance of the pharyngo-eosphageal tract or a laryngeal failure such as a palsy or cleft. In children, chronic coughing associated with chronic rhinosinusitis looks much more like a tracheobronchial manifestation of a global respiratory disease than a consequence of upper respiratory tract inflammation.

[Characteristics of otorhinolaryngologic diseases in the indigenous rural population of the North].

This paper presents the data describing specific features of ENT diseases in the aboriginal population of the North (Yakutians) obtained through mass-scale detailed examinations of the villagers. ENT pathologies were identified in 52.7% of those taken under examination. Among the pathologies ear diseases were in the first place (43.8%), pharyngeal diseases were in the second place (38.2%), nasal and paranasal diseases in the third place (14.2%). It is concluded that the prevalence and structure of ENT diseases among the population of the Far North should be taken into consideration when organizing ENT medical assistance in this area.

Diagnostic specificity of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) in otorhinolaryngological diseases.

The incidence and titer of ANCA were examined with 871 sera from patients with otorhinolaryngological diseases at our hospital. The cytoplasmic pattern of ANCA (c-ANCA) whose titer was more than 16 was detected only in the sera of patients with Wegener's granulomatosis (WG). The incidence of c-ANCA in active WG was more than 90%. The perinuclear staining pattern of ANCA (p-ANCA) was detected in almost 40% of patients with Sjögren's syndrome, 2.0% of inflammatory diseases and 1.0% of tumorous diseases. A high diagnostic value of c-ANCA in WG was found in patients with otorhinolaryngological diseases.

[Suffocation, an important lethal factor for otorhinolaryngological disease].

OBJECTIVE: To study the importance of supervision in respiratory tract for otorhinolaryngological disease. METHOD: Nine cases died of suffocation were reported and the causes were analyzed. In the 9 cases there were 3 cases with the foreign body in bronchus, 2 cases with the trachea bleeding, 2 cases with laryngopharyngeal tumor and 2 cases with bleeding from nasopharyngeal carcinoma. RESULT: All cases were died of suffocation. CONCLUSION: Suffocation is an important lethal factor for many otorhinolaryngological disease. Tracheotomy is a prompt and effective management for the suffocation resulting from upper respiratory tract obstruction. Tracheoscopy is the first choice for patients with lower respiratory tract obstruction. And the continuous inflating pressure with intubation in cases with trachea bleeding should be avoided.
