[Health resorts--dissatisfaction with health resorts].

An efficient medical rehabilitation is an important part of a modern health care system. There should be no doubts about its necessity. The medical rehabilitative system in Germany however, as it is organized by the sick-insurances and the annuity-insurances, does not fulfil all the claims urgently required. Much criticism seems really correct: the missing scientific basis of rehabilitation, the poor flexibility around the administrative procedures of application and performance, which is inadequate to medical needs, the nearly total absence of any negative selective criteria on the one hand and the huge problems in finding out those persons badly needing rehabilitative measures on the other, and last not least the uncertainty regarding the real economic benefits of the total enterprise of rehabilitation as it is actually practised.

[The organizational status and tasks of sanatorium-health resort treatment and health promotion for children suffering as a result of the Chernobyl catastrophe].

Al the Ukrainian Research Institute of Childhood Health-Resortology and Physiotherapy, more than 1000 children who became victims of the Chernobyl disaster were studied for their health status and time-related indices of same under the influence of the chief health-resort factors with the aid of the present-day clinical-and-laboratory, immunobiochemical, neurophysiological and radioimmunoassay techniques. The efficacies of the instituted therapies (87.9%) suggest that the above children may derive benefit from treatment at the Yevpatoriya health resort, with improvement of their health being consequent upon it. At the same time, primary tasks have been outlined, the solution of which tasks will, we believe, help in improving the diagnosis and quality of the treatments administered.

Prospective controlled evaluation of the influence of an excursion to a health resort on medical students' opinion about chances for outpatient rehabilitation at a health resort.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the influence of an excursion to a health resort on students' opinion on the chances for outpatient rehabilitation at a health resort for cardiac and rheumatic diseases. METHODS: A group of 17 medical students went on a 1-day excursion to Bad Orb (near Frankfurt/M.) where mainly patients with heart diseases are treated. Another group of 44 students went on a 5-day excursion to Bad Gastein (Austria) where mainly patients with rheumatic diseases are treated. Before and after the excursion students completed a questionnaire asking their opinion on the chances for outpatient rehabilitation at a health resort for acute and chronic cardiac and rheumatic diseases. RESULTS: Students judged the chances for beneficial effects of outpatient rehabilitation at a health resort for chronic rheumatic diseases to be significantly better after the excursion to Bad Gastein than before, whereas there was no difference after the excursion to Bad Orb. CONCLUSION: Students' opinion of chances for outpatient rehabilitation at a health resort can be influenced by an excursion to a spa, but a single 1-day excursion may not be sufficient.
