[Functional colonic disease and psychopathology. Importance of affective experiences].

The responsibility of psychopathological disorders in the genesis of irritable bowel has led to recent interpretations which challenge the classical data concerning this disease. The present study was conducted from a questionnaire-interview in 102 patients suffering from functional colopathy. It shows that these patients presented specific psychopathologic and biographic data. The patients with colopathy were anxious psychasthenics confined by their obsessive and narcisistic nature into a successful productive activity at the expense of pleasure seeking and interpersonal relationships. The emotional deficiencies of childhood found in almost all cases, in addition to separation anguish, undoubtedly led to an alteration of self-image. The pursuit of a successful activity seems to correspond to a perpetual attempt of control of anguish and a rehabilitation of the self-image. The precarious resulting balance often risk to be challenged by stresses or conflicts and force the physician to take complete charge of such a disease, carefully and patiently.

[Behavior of the patient with functional colon disease: types, analytical methods and therapeutic significance].

A proper clinical examination should provide psychological data that enriches the patient-physician relationship. Video recording and its analysis do not disturb the patient and provide for objective awareness. This technique confirms the idea that the behaviour and psychological structure of the colopath fall into two major and basic types: compulsive obsessionals and hysterophobics, types that should lead the practitioner to provide different sorts of psychological care. This care can form the basis for the treatment of the colopath.

[Changes in intestinal transit time induced by bromopride in functional diseases of the colon].

Intestinal transit time was studied in two groups of 8 patients with irritable colon. In the first group, the time was longer than normal, whereas in the second it was accelerated. Three subjects in each group received a placebo, while the other five received 60 mg/day bromopride for 15 days. No change in transit time was noted in the controls. Two subjects in Group I displayed a significant reduction in transit time after bromopride, while deceleration and normalisation were observed in 4/5 patients in Group II.
