[Cancer of the tongue. Anatomopathological and clinical considerations].

Reference is made to the percent incidence of malignant tumours of the tongue and its increase. Several anatomical features of this form are described, with particular regard to the lymphatic pathways. Turning to questions of classification, attention is given to cancer of the soft and fixed parts of the tongue in the light of the clinical stages and TNM system (1973) with the aim of making statistical comparisons more uniform, especially those concerning the approach adopted and the results achieved by modern, interdisciplinary therapy.

[Clinical considerations and genetics of the lattice dystrophy of the cornea].

Lattice dystrophy of the cornea is reported in 4 families. For purposes of linkage analysis we did serological tests on pertinent family members, including marker testing of the blood group systems ABO, MNSs, Rh, K, Ky, and P; protein group systems Hp, Ge, Gm, and Inv; and enzyme polymorphisms SEP, PGM, ADA, and AK.

Clinical considerations of the ratio of myocardial oxygen demand to available supply.

Myocardial oxygen demand is the relationship between the inherent needs of the heart and the available oxygenated blood reaching the myocardial tissue. The system is controlled by two different, yet not wholly uncomplementary, mechanisms. The first, coronary blood flow, appears to be regulated primarily by tissue oxygen tension. The second, the determinants of myocardial oxygen consumption, is controlled more by the heart's mechanical performance than the tissue oxygen tension. Currently available antianginal drugs and physical training affect these two mechanisms and may alter angina pectoris.

The jugular bulb: its anatomic and clinical considerations in contemporary otology.

Advances in neurotologic diagnosis and surgery has pointed to the need for a complete reassessment of the relationship and significance of the jugular bulb and sigmoid sinus is discussed and selected temporal bone sections presented to illustrate the varying locations of the jugualr bulb. Considerations in differential diagnosis are presented and examples of surgical procedures are discussed wherein the jugular bulb was encountered and the methods of management are detailed in these instances.
