[Health status and working conditions of female workers in the textile industry in Lódź].

Within a cross-sectional representative study of textile industry workers in Lódź, the rate of chronic diseases in particular occupational groups of women, as related to age, socio-living conditions and work environment, has been analysed. Furthermore, a representative gynaecologic examination has been carried out in a randomly selected group of women and occupational and non-occupational workload has been estimated. The study delivered ample information on the health conditions and revealed a number of disadvantageous phenomena inherent in the population and in the gynecologic care system for the women employed in the test plants.

[Microbial contamination of the air in the commercial production of poultry meat].

Microbiologic studies were carried out on industrial premises for the raising of broiler birds on deep litter over a flooring area of 2000 m2 at mechanical ventilation of negative pressure. The microbial count was established through culturing in meat-and-peptone agar regarding the presence of coli bacteria, microscopic fungi, hemolytic cocci and Salmonellae in the air. Studies were also performed to establish the contamination of the atmospheric air at a distance of 10 m surrounding the premises, of the litter as well as of the feed and the soil in immediate proximity to the buildings. It was found that as a result of raising the 'biologic loading' of the ecotope by 60 per cent the microbial contamination of the air in the industrial buildings rose. The basic sources of contamination were the deep litter, the atmospheric air introduced by the ventilation system, the soil, and the feed.

[Effect of the lighting regimen during the raising of breeding and market laying hens].

Studied was the effect of illumination intensity on the physiologic state of the body, growth and development, egg laying capacity and the economic effectiveness in the raising of growing stock laying hens and adult ones in three-tier cell batteries of the BKM-3 and BHK-H types. The content of hemoglobin, total protein, calcium, inorganic phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, and erythrocyte count. Determined was also the content of some fat-soluble vitamins in the liver as well as the glycogen level in the liver and muscles and the amount of blood sugar. Certain changes were established in the investigated hematologic and biochemical indices along with the rise of effectiveness in using an illumination programme of low light intensity with regard to the type of birds mentioned above.

[Effect of the bacterial count in the air on chickens and laying hens raised commercially].

Investigations were carried out to establish the amount of bacteria in the air on the premises for raising young birds and laying hans as well as in the respiration organs of the birds. Attempts were made to lower the microbism on the premises through the aerosol spray of Lugol solution. It was found that under industrial conditions there existed a rising trend with microbism both on the premises and in the respiratory organs of the birds, parallel to the advance in age which contributed to the enhancement of mortality rate and the drop of productivity. The use of Lugol solution in the form of spray was shown to produce a favourable effect on the health and productivity of birds.
