[Incidence and structure of maxillodental abnormalities in twins].

Dental examinations were carried out in 208 twins (104 pairs), 60 of these monozygotic and 148 heterozygotic. Anthropometric studies of the diagnostic models of the maxilla were carried out in 78 children. The incidence and structure of maxillodental abnormalities and the specific significance of some of these abnormalities in their total structure in both groups of twins were determined. The degree of differences in pairs of twins was evaluated on the basis of anthropometric parameters and individual abnormalities. The highest level of hereditary influence was observed for the width of dentition and distal occlusion.

[Fetal alcohol syndrome--case report].

Clinical picture of the fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is described by the example of three girls aged 9, 11 and 11 years. Besides mild to moderate mental retardation, all the three girls had a number of physical anomalies characteristic of FAS. Inheritance as the possible cause of these defects was ruled out by genetic testing. Low birth weight, delay in the postnatal growth and development, microcephaly, hypertelorism, malformed and low-positioned auricles, as well as skeletal alterations, were observed in the three girls. In two of them, epicanthus, strabismus, microphtalmia, gothic palate, crossbite and arachnodactyly were also found. Progenia, cleft palate, aplasia of the uvula, wide root of the nose, saddle nose, enamel hypoplasia, dermatoglyphic alterations, and cutaneous syndactyly and clinodactyly of the fifth finger were recorded in single cases each. One girl suffered from epilepsy. The orofacial region is especially affected in children with FAS, which necessitates specific dental care. Due to decreased intellectual abilities of such children, their treatment is particularly difficult and requires specific approach and methods of work.

[Dental findings in a case of Chondrodysplasia Punctata].

Chondrodysplasia Punctata is a disease belonging to the metaphysia syndrome. This disease is characterized by endochondral punctata calcification of epiphysis or apophysis, short legs and hands, arthrogryposis, saddle nose, ichthyosis, cataract and mental retardation. This report concerns a case of Chondrodysplasia Punctata (Rhizomeric form) in a 4 year 1 month old girl. Observations were made from the dental point of view, and the findings were as follows: 1) The mesio-distal and bucco-lingual lengths of all primary teeth were smaller than the standard size. 2) Measuring the dental cast, the width of the dental arch was found to be larger, but the length of the arch was found to be smaller than the standard size. 3) The value of the palatal height was slightly smaller, compared with that of the normal children. 4) According to X-ray cephalometric analysis, the growth of the mandible was insufficient. 5) An enlargement of the angles of the teeth axes of the upper and lower central incisors was found. 6) The growth of the basal arches of the maxilla and mandible were shown to be retarded in the anterior portion. 7) Measurement of the area of the tubella sella triangle, revealed the posterior parts to be large and almost standard in the mesofacial part, and small in the mandibulo-facial parts.

[Numerical anomalies of the dentition with respect to various types of teeth. 2. (Molars and multiple anomalies). Dentition anomalies among cases of a district dentist, 7].

The significance of the numerical anomalies of the teeth is seen for the general medical science that it may be helpful for solving of questions raised by other hereditary anomalies. This report deals with the numerical anomalies of the molars, and it reports the variety of the multiple numerical anomalies. The latters may appear very multifarously and may occur extremities (complete edentulousness and jaw bone doubling, respectively), too.
