[Adenylate kinase and creatine kinase activity of rabbit blood serum following application of a tourniquet to the thigh].

A colorimetric method is described for estimation of the adenilate kinase activity in blood serum; the method is based on coupling of adenilate- and creatine kinase reactions and on estimation of the amount of creatine formed. Adenilate kinase activity in blood serum, estimated by the method, was shown to increase 4-fold after removing of tourniquet with subsequent normalization within the next day. The same data were obtained using a spectrophotometric method for estimation of adenilate kinase based on NADP reduction in coupled reactions with hexokinase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. An increase in creatine kinase activity in blood serum occurred later on after removing of the tourniquet; it was more distinct (8.5-fold) and maintained longer as compared with the increase in adenilate kinase activity.

[Corrective osteotomies of the thigh after faulty healing of infected burn wounds].

The occurrence of burn injuries and fractures of the extremities often necessitates that vital precautions be taken first and the possibility of osseous defective healing be initially accepted. After the vital functions have been stabilized, late corrective procedures become necessary. Two cases of the treatment strategy for femur fractures which healed defectively are reported.

[Metabolic characteristics of the myocardium and muscle tissue of the thigh in rats].

Myocardium and skeletal muscle of white rats have a number of specific features in metabolism of carbohydrates. The skeletal muscle is characterized by high intensity of glycolytic processes and glycolytic substrate phosphorylation, that is testified to by the activity of the terminal glycolysis stage enzymes (pyruvate kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, its isoenzyme spectrum) and by the content of lactate and pyruvate metabolites. In contrast to skeletal muscles, the activity of NAD-dependent malate dehydrogenase in the myocardium is significant both in cytoplasm and in mitochondria. This activity corresponds to a high level of malate and oxaloacetate metabolites and to the activity of NADP-dependent malate dehydrogenase, playing a connective role between glycolysis, the cycle of tricarboxylic acids and glyconeogenesis. Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, catalyzing the transformation of cytoplasmatic oxaloacetate into phosphoenolpyruvate is more active in the skeletal muscles where the intensity of the tricarboxylic acids cycle reactions is lower and the activity of glycolysis is higher than that of myocardium.

[Under the thigh amputation according to Bruckner].

Knee joints of 24 in 28 patients were successfully preserved by below-knee amputation according to Brückner, at the Surgical Department of Karl-Marx University in Leipzig in 1987. The above patients had been in advanced age and in multimorbid conditions. Surgical technique and postoperative care are described and discussed in some detail.
