Dental diagnostic problems of potential genetic significance: the dental practitioner as geneticist in the developmental disabilities clinic.

A high incidence of aberrant dental formation can be anticipated in developmentally disabled children, particularly where the etiologic factors for developmental retardation are presumably of organic origin. The dentist, practicing in the developmental clinic, must frequently determine the developmental significance of such dental variation. In this capacity, his familiarity with the dental features of genetic disease can contribute significantly to more precise diagnosis.

Conservative endodontic-restorative treatment for a severely damaged and periapically compromised molar: a case report.

Many teeth with apical involvement show apical external resorption, and become difficult to treat. A patient with a severely damaged, periapically compromised permanent molar was treated successfully with a combination of simple root canal therapy and a conventional amalgam restoration. This method offers an inexpensive and predictable alternative and provides the option for a different restorative approach in the future.

Immediate implants placed into infected sites: a clinical report.

Placement of immediate implants is a routine clinical procedure. However, certain clinical conditions, especially the presence of infected sites, are considered to be contraindications for the immediate implant. Based on clinical experience, it is proposed that if certain preoperative and postoperative steps are carefully followed and meticulous debridement of the alveolus is done during the surgical procedure, immediate implants can be successfully placed into chronically infected sites. The advantages of this procedure are discussed.

New subgingival restorative procedures with Geristore resin ionomer.

In an ongoing search for new and improved dental materials, researchers have developed restorative products which are improved versions of traditional formulations. This has been especially true in the area of glass ionomers. One such modification has been the development of a material, termed resin ionomer. This material is less technique sensitive and exhibits low oral solubility; it may be light activated and finished at the time of placement. This article presents the clinical application of such a material with emphasis on its use in subgingival and periodontal applications.
