[The correction of disorders in transcapillary metabolism in children with rheumatoid arthritis by using health resort therapy].

Children with rheumatoid arthritis in remission or minimal activity of the disease were examined after sanatorium treatment. It was established that health resort factors had produced a positive capillarotropic effect in rheumatoid arthritis, i.e. capillarotropic insufficiency, tissue hypoxia, inflammation and proteolysis reduced; microcirculation returned to normal.

[Experience with the risk factor-based prevention of ischemic heart disease at a Pyatigorsk health resort].

Methods and efficacy of correction of kinesitherapy, body mass and cholesterolemia in CHD prevention were studied in 162 patients with pathology of the locomotor system combined with obesity in the Pyatigorsk health resort area. Various methods of exercise therapy and special diets (low-caloric and subcaloric--6694-10460 kJ) combined with methods of balneotherapy were used. Favorable shifts in the clinical status of patients, an increase in their physical activity 2-fold and more, a decrease in excess body mass, a decrease in the blood level of total cholesterol (in 78%), an increase in alpha-lipoprotein cholesterol (65%), and a decrease in cholesterol atherogenic index (in all patients with initial pathology) were noted.

[Current methods of follow-up and correction of the performance of the physical rehabilitation of patients with ischemic heart disease at sanatoria of the Caucasian Mineral Waters health resort].

A total of 1055 CHD patients aged 45 to 70 (680 men and 375 women) were examined during physical rehabilitation using tele-electrocardiographic and monitor control in the Caucasian Mineral Waters health resorts. A retrospective analysis of 400 case histories of CHD patients treated in the same sanatoria in 1985 without the use of present-day methods of control over physical training, was taken as control. Short- and long-term results showed that therapeutic efficacy was higher in the group where the levels of physical exercises were corrected by regular tele-electrocardiographic and monitor control.

[Immediate and late results of rehabilitation at the climatic health resorts on the southern coast of the Crimea with sunlight- and meteorolabile patients with chronic bronchitis].

A study of the social, socioeconomic and economic indices of rehabilitation of patients with chronic obstructive and nonobstructive bronchitis has shown that one should take account of a degree of expression of heliometeolability when selecting patients with chronic bronchitis residing in West Siberia for climatic treatment in the Crimean South Coast. It has been shown that rehabilitation in the Crimean South Coast health resort area is advisable for heliometeostable patients and patients with mild and marked degrees of heliometeolability. Patients with chronic bronchitis should not be sent to the Crimea in winter and late autumn as the rehabilitation effect in this period is lowered.

Early rehabilitation of patients in the convalescence phase after myocardial infarction. Results of a multicentre study in GDR health resorts.

Carried out within the framework of the GDR myocardial infarction control programme, this study presents the organisational model of early rehabilitation of post-infarction patients in convalescence (phase II according to WHO) in health resorts and sanatoria. By referring to a multicentre study conducted on 5,069 patients in six sanatoria of the GDR, a higher physical performance and cardiac relaxation are set forth as essential results, coupled with a decline in the sympathico-adrenergic response, which are concomitant with an improved state of health. Twelve months following the cure, 77% of the patients regained their ability to work, with 71% of them back in their former jobs.

[Sanatorium-health resort treatment of children with hereditary diseases of the neuromuscular system].

The study was aimed at determining the efficacy of sanatorium treatment of patients with hereditary neuromuscular abnormalities. Sanatorium methods of treatment combined with drug therapy were found to be more effective as compared with outpatient or hospital treatment. The sanatorium treatment proved most effective in children with congenital myopathy, Charcot-Marie neural amyotrophy, and Roussy-Levy polyneuropathy. Improvement in the general status and motor functions was correlated with certain improvement in dynamometric findings, locomotor tests, stabilization of a number of parameters of electroneuromyographic examination, and biochemical findings. The results point to the necessity of setting up specialized departments in childhood neurologic sanatoria or sanatoria specializing in the treatment of children with individual forms of neuromuscular diseases at health resorts which can provide treatment with sulphide waters or therapeutic mud.

[Method of quantitative evaluation of functional status and its dynamics among patients with ischemic heart disease during treatment at the Palanga health resort].

The evaluation of functional status of coronary patients has been made by means of a computerized numerical scoring system, using the results of clinical examination, functional cardiovascular and cerebrovascular tests, and psychosocial tests. The effectiveness of rehabilitation and secondary preventive programs for coronary patients treated at a health resort are rated on the basis of a difference between their functional status at the starting and finishing points of the program, as well as the resulting functional status after the program is over.

[Cytochemical properties of peripheral blood neutrophils during health resort treatment of patients with chronic inflammatory processes in the gastrointestinal tract].

Cytochemical indices of the activity of oxidoreduction processes, the bactericide and hydrolytic systems of neutrophils of the blood of patients with chronic inflammatory processes in the G. I. tract returned to normal as a result of treatment at health resorts. The cytochemical properties of neutrophils reflected the time course of changes in the general condition.

[Effect of the climate of the Anapa health resort on the effectiveness of treatment of chronic aspecific lung diseases in adolescents].

The results of examination of 2144 adolescents with bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis coming to the health resort area of the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus from various regions of the USSR showed a significant effect of the climatic and weather factors on the efficacy of sanatorium treatment. Change of climatic zones resulted in the reduction of therapeutic efficacy due to dysadaptation reactions of the body necessitating stricter indications for a differentiated selection of adolescents coming from contrast climatic zones of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East.

[The immediate effectiveness of rehabilitative treatment and secondary prevention in ischemic heart disease patients at Palanga health resort].

The effectiveness of rehabilitation and secondary prevention was analysed in 1761 coronary patients treated at Palanga health resort. Rehabilitation measures were prescribed to patients on the basis of their functional state (FS), sets of cardiovascular and nervous symptoms and stress tolerance tests. The improvement of FS was observed in 74.8% of patients, while 3.1% and 19.2% of patients displayed impairment or no changes, respectively. The sets of symptoms, related to angina pectoris, stress tolerance, myocardial impairment and central nervous function, underwent the greatest variation throughout the rehabilitation treatment. Negative FS dynamics were determined by unfavorable sets of symptoms (apparent myocardial impairment, heart failure and dysrhythmias).

[Biological rhythms of various hormones and plasma protein parameters in the course of resort treatment].

Three groups of male patients with primary chronic polyarthritis, degenerative arthroses and labile hypertension took part in the study. They undertook spa treatment in three different health resorts. General aim of the study was to obtain information about biological rhythms of epinephrine, norepinephrine and cyclic AMP excretion, as well as about the serum concentration of triiodothyronine, thyroxine, immunoglobulin M, complement C 3 and alpha 2-macroglobulin in correlation with the spa treatment. Further, the occurrence of homogenization was investigated. Epinephrine excretion rhythms with a period length of 24 hours, which were not observed during the first and second week of the cure, occurred in the third week. With regard to norepinephrine excretion the phenomenon described as homogenization appeared. Furthermore, circaseptan rhythms, which could be evaluated as reactions to the spa treatment, were found. The occurrence of the circaseptan rhythms, however, cannot at once be equated directly with a positive result in response to the course of treatment.

[Distribution and biological characteristics of Ixodes persulcatus (Ixodidae) ticks in the health resort zone of Leningrad].

The occurrence of an isolated population of I. persulcatus in the health resort zone of Leningrad is due to a character of vegetation, soils, relief and availability of such food sources as birds, hares and elks. The seasonal dynamics of ticks abundance depends very little on temperature but depends on the amount of precipitations and on the number of days with precipitations; long fluctuations in the ticks abundance are stimulated, in general, by temperature. Annual mechanical collections of ticks in nature and their chemical extermination on a small area do not affect sufficiently the abundance of populations.

[Energy consumption of gastroenterology patients during complex sanatorium-health resort treatment].

The gas exchange method was used to study energy expenditures of gastroenterological patients receiving regulated balneotherapeutic procedures, during therapeutic physical training, and terrain cure. The time card and tabular method was applied to determine energy expenditures of patients under the conditions of sparing and training regimens of health resort treatment. The daily energy expenditures amounted to 2714 +/- 61.1 kcal (11 355 +/- 255.6kJ) to 2252 +/- 54.1 kcal (9422.4 +/- 226.3kJ) for men and women, respectively under sparing regimen; to 3662 +/- 89,4 kcal (15 322 +/- 374,0 kJ) and 2924 +/- 78,8 kcal (12 234,0 +/- 329,7 kJ) for men and women, respectively under training regimen. The data obtained point to the necessity of a differentiated approach to the dietetics depending on the treatment regimen at gastroenterological sanatoria.
