[Comparative study of 7 cephalosporins on "Staphylococcus aureus" by the method of population analysis (author's transl)].

Miscellaneous Staphylococcus aureus populations were tested with seven commercialized cephalosporins. The strains were divided in five groups according to the following criteria: penicillinase production or not: sensitivity to methicillin and cephalosporins; RB type resistance to methicillin; RH and RO type resistance to every beta-lactamine (according to Chabbert and Baudens). For each cephalosporin studied, the population cell analysis performed with these different groups showed the constant heterogeneous arrangement of the individual MIC. However, whatever the staphylococcus group, cephaloridine remains the antibiotic that inhibits the largest number of cells at lower concentration than other cephalosporins. In vitro results were compared with pharmacokinetic data of the different cephalosporins.

The assessment of interaction between drugs by the Autobac 1 system.

A study has been undertaken on the applicability of the Autobac 1 system to the checker board method to determine the interaction of combined drugs on bacterial populations. Preliminary results are reported which show that the Autobac makes easier, accurate, flexible and rapid such a method. In order to improve the significance and facilitate technical operations and data processing of this test additional equipment and device are suggested.

[Cefacetril in treatment of clinical bovine mastitis].

The dynamic of the reconvalescence process was followed up in the udder of cows treated with the intramammary preparation Cefacetril. Complete therapeutic effect was recorded with 93.10 per cent of the cases, elimination of the infection -- with 86 per cent, and normalization of the cell content -- with 37.93 per cent. It was also established that during recovery the chlorine content of milk dropped, while lactose rose. The percent content of the protein fractions changed, whereupon the serum albumin and the immunoglobulins decreased, and the beta-lactoglobulin and the gamma-lactoglobulin increased.

[Stability of sulbenicillin and cefacetrile in bile (author's transl)].

The antibiotic activity of sulbenicillin and cefacetrile was determined after storage at -20 degrees C for up to 7 days in human gall-bladder and common duct bile. In gall-bladder bile, both drugs could not retain their initial activity after 3 days. The decay curves in antibiotic activity in the ductal bile revealed large variations, as given in Figs. 5 and 6. The 7th day activity of both drugs decreased with the rise in initial pH level of bile. Significant correlation was noted between bile acid concentration in bile and cefacetrile activity on the 7th day.
