[The status of ocular fixation in civil aviation pilots].

This paper discussed the importance of gaze fixation for professional pilot activities. It describes new methods for evaluating mono- and binocular fixation. The results of examinations of pilots with mild emmetropia and ametropia demonstrate that qualitative parameters of gaze fixation are important adequate assessment of visual abilities. Fixation parameters measured using standard methods and authors' techniques have been compared. The paper presents the values of gaze fixation that require rehabilitation procedures.

Policy considerations of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in U.S. Naval aviation personnel.

This article reviews the available medical data that form the basis for the U.S. Navy's policy on aeromedical disposition of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) seropositive flyers. Following a brief review of military HIV antibody testing and clinical evaluation, this article addresses the main issue in the Navy's aeromedical disposition policy--the subtle neurologic sequelae of HIV infection or HIV encephalopathy. Following a review of the available knowledge of HIV involvement in the nervous system, the aeromedical considerations that form the basis of Navy policy of permanently grounding without waiver all HIV seropositive flyers is discussed.

[Hygienic standardization of physical factors generated by civil aviation in residential areas].

The study was designed to analyze the hygienic characteristics of civil aircraft institutions (airports, facilities for air traffic safety control, meteorological service) as the main sources of electromagnetic energy and noise at the adjacent residential territory. The problems of hygienic standardization of electromagnetic emission in the radio frequency range of 4-9 produced by various radio engineering airport devices were studied together with other physical environmental factors (noise, temperature). Methodological approaches to the regulation of the above factors on the basis of hygienic standards were proposed.
