[Ultrasonic monitoring of the status of the liver in children with intrathoracic tuberculosis during chemotherapy].

Findings of parallel clinical, laboratory and echographic investigations relating to 44 children with various forms of intrathoracic tuberculosis are presented. Echography permitted dividing the patients into two groups. The first group consisted of 14 patients with normal echograms of the liver parenchyma, insignificant extents of intrathoracic tuberculosis at the phase of incomplete consolidation and calcination and normal function of the liver. Aggravation of the process by the echograms (microfocal consolidations) observed in 5 patients accounted for the adverse reactions. The second group included 30 patients with pathological shifts on the echograms of the liver parenchyma at the moment of the registration in the hospital, significant extent of intrathoracic tuberculosis at the phase of infiltration, shifted biochemical indices of the liver function, microfocal parenchymal changes appeared as high amplitude pulses. The ultrasonic procedure allowed to estimate the functional state of the liver, to modulate the chemotherapy scheme and to predict the adverse reactions.

[Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in children with tuberculosis of the respiratory organs].

Cases of pneumocystic pneumonia were recorded among children with tuberculosis of the respiratory organs. Epidemiological and clinicoroentgenological characteristics of pneumocystic pneumonia in 15 children at the age of 3 to 15 years with tuberculosis of the respiratory organs are presented. Peculiar clinical manifestations of pneumocystic pneumonia in the children of the preschool and younger school ages were studied. Special laboratory methods and in particular the immunofluorescence test (IFT) made it possible to detect the pathogen in the contents of the respiratory tracts, as well as immunological shifts in the children.

[Antiproteolytic activity of the blood serum in adolescents with pulmonary tuberculosis].

The antiproteolytic activity of the blood serum was examined in the course of hospital treatment of 128 adolescents with prevailingly torpid forms of pulmonary tuberculosis and in 19 adolescents with tubercular infection (control). A direct correlation has been found between the degree of clinico-roentgenological manifestations of the disease and level of serum alpha 1-inhibitor of proteinases as well as between the efficacy of treatment and normalization of the antiproteolytic activity of the blood of the patients. It proposed to use the determination of alpha 1-inhibitor of proteinases as an additional criterion of evaluation of the clinical course and outcomes of the disease in adolescents.
