[10 years of tympanoplasty in the hands of an ear, nose and throat surgeon. An analysis of successes and failures (author's transl)].

The successful performance of a tympanoplasty by an otologist working for the health service is guaranteed when the operative results are systematically checked and critically evaluated against clinical-scientific advances. Certain criteria are discussed, based on an experience of 827 tympanoplastics, such as preoperative treatment, assessment of the pathological-anatomical conditions, restoration of sound conduction, tubal function, the problem of the drum transplant, reconstruction of the meatal wall and especially attocotomy which proved very satisfactory in 72 cases.

[Penicillin tolerance in group A beta-hemolytic streptococci isolated from throat cultures of children with tonsillopharyngitis].

The most common bacterial cause of tonsillopharyngitis is group A beta-hemolytic streptococci (GABHS) and penicillin is the drug of choice for the treatment of these infections. However, a disturbing trend toward penicillin failure has developed in some communities. It has been proposed that penicillin tolerance is a possible explanation for this failure. In this study, penicillin tolerance of GABHS strains isolated from 263 children with tonsillopharyngitis, was investigated between December 2000-March 2001. As a result, none of the isolated strains was found to be penicillin resistant or penicillin tolerant according to minimal inhibitory concentration and minimal bactericidal concentration values for penicillin G, determined by microdilution method.

[Connection between changing the vitamin and immune status and the character of the throat microflora in patients with chronic tonsillitis].

The author investigated 28 patients with chronic tonsillitis. The fungi sort Candida on the tonsils was discovered at 10 (35.72) patients, the bacterial flora was discovered at the other patients. There were more considerable decrease content of vitamins B2, C, methylnicotinamide and methylmalonic acid in the urine, vitamins B2 and methylnicotinamide in the saliva, vitamins A and B1 in the serum of the blood in the group of the patients with the fungus flora on the tonsils. It was discovered the decrease of numbers of lymphocytes CD8 and level of immunoglobulins G and M, disimmunoglobulinemia in this group. This decrease of the vitamins, cell and humoral immunity level leads to disbacteriosis, decompensation of the disease and development of the complications.
