Eight cases of acute pustular bacterid preceded by angina of beta-streptococcal origin are summarized. Although this disease appears to be an acute type of pustular bacterid Andrews, the elevated antistreptolysin titers and the histological features of vasculitis with perivascular deposits of C3 and IgM seem to be remarkable findings. One of the patients' skin symptoms were complicated by a glomerulonephritis. The skin lesions improved rapidly after systemic administration of glucocorticosteroids.

A hitherto undescribed inherited dermatosis, traceable to certain 19th-century inhabitants of Oudtshoorn, CP, has been transmitted as an autosomal dominant to a large number of their present-day descendants. The disease consists of intermittent and recurrent centrifugal peeling, with redness, of the palms and soles in particular. In more severe cases similar patches are found extending up the limbs to the buttocks and the trunk generally. The inconvenience is usually moderate, but it may be incapacitating. Some temporary relief, but so far nothing permanent, can be offered through treatment.

4 cases with congenital hyperkeratotic lesions localized on the palms and soles, occurring in three generations of one family, were observed. The atrophic, hyperkeratotic lesions accompanied by anhidrosis were dirty yellowish-brown coloured, with an ill-defined border but without any erythematous or pigmented halo. Further clinical findings were conspicuous dryness, adherent scale formation, fissurings and parchment paper-like luster. Histological findings were identical to those of ichthyosis vulgaris, with an absence of eccrine sweat glands. Hence, this type of hyperkeratosis can be distinguished from other types of inherited palmoplantar keratosis. For this peculiar form of dominantly inherited palmoplantar keratosis, the author proposed the new name 'ichthyosis vulgaris palmaris et plantaris dominans'.
