[Kurt Goldstein: from aphasia to linguistics].

The authors try to take into account Kurt Goldstein's contribution on the subject of aphasia. They introduce the significance of the phenomenological approach of the language leading them toward the structuralist theme.

[Effects of noise on cortical mechanisms involved in the development of linguistic sounds].

So far studies about noise effects on speech perception have been focused on the development of hearing loss and other related pathologies. However, behavioral findings indicate that speech perception and intelligibility are disrupted in presence of noise in certain clinical groups in a way that is unpredictable on the basis of the audiogram performed in silence. This observation suggests that even soft noise can modify the cerebral mechanisms underlying speech information processing. Confirming the behavioral results, electric and magnetic brain measurements showed that noise presented to healthy subjects decreases the amplitude and increases the latency of brain responses to speech sounds. Recently, further experimental data allowed us to have a deeper knowledge of the neural mechanisms interventing in difficult listening conditions. In particolar, speech sounds presented in noisy background evoke bioelectric responses in neural populations located in the right cerebral hemisphere, that otherwise would not be activated. These findings can in future contribute to unveal new aspects of the noise pathology and its assessment in an early pre-clinical stage.

Linguistic production, process of meaning and the interactive pattern in avoiding anxiety.

The aim of this study is to work out a theoretical model that would at once be able to tackle the connection between emotions, thoughts, language and actions, since man has constant contact with others during his life, and to recognize the single basic concepts deriving from anxiety and desire. Our main concern is to follow the outcomes of anxiety, in order to understand how it is avoided, by which mental and emotional forms and ways of behaviour. Hence one can find the result of this process in interaction with others. In this perspective the process of meaning is autonomous, and neutrality is not only interpreted as a therapeutic directive, but as a fundamental aim of the therapy, related to controlling the anxiety and emotions which fill the field of conscience during interaction with the other.

Distribution of surnames and linguistic-cultural identities of the Slovenian and German minorities of northeastern Italy.

In this study we have compared the structure of surnames of Slovenian and German (Carinthian) minorities of northeastern Italy with other municipalities of the neighbourhood. The analysis has been carried out by using estimates of the similarities between populations and the topological representation obtained by them, as well as the spatial autocorrelation. On the whole, this research shows some distinctions which depend on the territorial geography, especially in the mountainous area. Moreover, movements of individuals in the limited zones of the plain are evident, probably due to socioeconomic conditions, the moving of the people and their change of dwelling. Finally, it is probable that different Slovenian dialects generated characteristic structures of surnames which were well preserved in the most peripherical municipalities of the territory.
