[The use of osteosynthesis screws in child mandibles. Anatomical and mechanical considerations].

Thirty seven child mandibular skeletons were analysed radiographically and computer tomographically to establish if there is enough room for osteosynthesis screws. The study demonstrated that in the primary and early mixed dentition there is not enough room in the canine or post-canine region to allow the installation of an osteosynthesis screw without damaging the inferior dental nerve or teeth buds. However, in the later stage of permanent tooth eruption the entire caudal portion of the mandibular body seems to provide sufficient room for osteosynthesis screws. SEM examinations of implant beds of 100 2 mm AO miniscrews inserted into the mandibles of eight fresh cadavers aged eight to twelve years showed cracks, as well as signs of squashing, crushing and shearing stress, regardless of whether the screws were pretapped or not. When, during screw insertion, the axis of the screw deviated by at least 10 degrees from the axis of the tap, two crossing thread courses resulted.

[Role of lower third molars in the development of dental malocclusion: review of the literature].

The Author's aims was to review the role of the lower third molars in delayed crowding of the jaw. A global agreement exists on the fact that lower molars should be considered only one between several factors able to cause malocclusion. Finally, the germectomy of the third molars has to be performed only in carefully selected patients after a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation of the single case.

Occlusion in the primary and early mixed dentitions in a group of Tanzanian and Finnish children.

Two high and two low socioeconomic areas were selected for the Tanzanian portion of this study, with all nursery schools located in those areas included, for a subtotal of 580 children. The Finnish group was comprised of a total of 575 Caucasian children examined. The Tanzanian children (83 percent Black African, 10 percent Asian, 7 percent Arab) had fewer occlusal anomalies than the Finnish children did. Finnish children had a 13-percent incidence rate of lateral cross-bite; among African children, 8 percent showed anterior crossbite; and among the combined Asian/Arab group of children, 10 percent had an anterior open bite. African children had significantly fewer prevalences of distal bite, lateral crossbite and crowding than Finnish children did.

[Osteo-dental ankylosis of permanent teeth].

The Authors present a bone dental ankylosis study and two clinical cases. The Authors show literature data in relation to different pathogenetic hypothesis and their therapeutic programs. Considering Bda as an histologic diagnosis, they suggest that any treatment-resistant clinical case is a true Bda.

[Persistence of deciduous canines in an adult patient].

The Author presents a case of permanence of two canine deciduous teeth in the upper jaw of a grown-up person for the absence of a side incisor and three premolars. Furthermore he presents personal histological findings of the pulp of two teeth and the biological meanings are discussed.

[Prevention and the public sector. The "Città murata" project. Results of a year's activity].

Transporting the pupils in pullman directly towards the locations of Sanitary Services has been made a complete screening process of caries applied on the first primary classes pertaining to the territory of the Ulss n.19 (Veneto Region). After a lesson on oral hygiene and a specialistic visit of the orodental state, it was performed a sealing of the surfaces of the permanent molar teeth in subjects at risk. It was emphasized that at the age of 6 years, the 73.76% of the subjects has presented at least one molar tooth erupted, and that among the permanent molar teeth, the 11.01 has already had a caries experience. The sealing was performed on 1149 molar teeth, equivalent to 68.47% of the elements at risk. the initiative will be completed by a recall of the same subjects, with the same modalities of treatment, in the second primary class.

The biologic width--periodontal-restorative relationship.

An important relationship should exist between the periodontist and restorative dentist. Periodontics and restorative dentistry should not be divisible and all forms of restorations, from a simple filling to a complex precision-retained bridge, should be performed with the health and biology of the periodontium in mind. A very crucial concept which should be borne in the mind of every restorative dentist is the concept of biologic width.

[The relation of pericoronitis to the position of the mandibular third molar].

Pericoronitis is the most commonly encountered pathologic condition involving the mandibular third molar. Because of the dangers associated with mandibular third molar pericoronitis, prophylactic extraction of third molar at high risk has been recommended. We studied 411 patients with mandibular third molar pericoronitis by clinical symptoms and radiographic measurement of mandibular third molar height, wideth and angulation. The results were as follows: 1. Mandibular third molar pericoronitis is frequently seen in third decade and there are no sexual difference significantely. 2. In inflammatory type of mandibular third molar pericoronitis, chronic pericoronitis occured more frequently than acute type. 3. In relation to angulation and height, mandibular third molar most likely to be afflicted with pericoronitis is vertical eruption at occlusal plane of the second molar. 4. In relation to angulation and width, it appears that the position of the mandibular third molar most likely to be afflicted with pericoronitis is in a vertically erupted tooth of which the space between the ramus and the distal side of the second molar is less than the mesiodistal diameter of crown. (Class II). 5. In relation to height and width, it appears that the position of the mandibular third molar most likely to be afflicted with pericoronitis is class II width (described above)at occlusal plane of the second molar.

[Symptoms of the failure of the biological mechanism of teething. Symptomatology of the primary teeth's reinclusion].

Symptoms of the primary teeth's reinclussion are presented as an example of the failure of the biological mechanism of teething. Ethiology and pathogenesis of these disturbances have not been explained yet. In this situation complete and systematic description of the symptoms divided into clinical, radiological and histological symptoms can make the comparison with similar nosological entity easier and can bring the solution of anomaly's pathogenesis closer.
