[Profile of nursing schools graduates according to the National Curriculum Guidelines: an approach].

The curriculum restructuration in the nursing graduation course, that is necessary according to the National Curriculum Guidelines (NCG), starts its activities with a critical reading of the Resolution 03/2201. In this Resolution, there is, besides others orientations, the egresses profile. This critical review of literature aimed at reflecting about the words or categories that the egresses profile contains, according to the NCG. It will be made by using dictionaries (of Portuguese language and philosophy) and literature diverse (of the nursing course and others subjects) to understand them better and perceive them relevant to the nurse professional formation and, consequently, essential in the Pedagogical Political Project (PPP). The values of the egresses profile proposal in the nurse's formation are recognized, but it is important to realize that it is not a matter of establish new marks, prioritize new objectives, change the profile, restructure subjects, reestablish functioning conditions or schedule only, but realize a collective work with a group growth.

[Nursing education with no distance: a space and time rupture].

This article presents pedagogical assumptions and some distance educational policies. It also presents considerations about educational technologies, and describes the experience of using the Internet in the nursing education undergraduate courses. It was offered a course via Internet, in the WebCT environment. The subject theme was Intravenous Therapy. Initially 49 students enrolled in the course, among these, 25 completed 50% of the course activities. Internet can stimulate and facilitate the nursing student digital inclusion. Thus, Internet can be seen as a useful auxiliary tool that allows a space and time flexibility, where these factors are determined according to learner's interests and availability.

Training graduate students to be teachers.

Pedagogic education of graduate students, when and where it exists, is restricted to theoretical courses or to the participation of the students as teachers' assistants. This model is essentially reproductive and offers few opportunities for any significant curriculum innovation. To open an opportunity for novelty we have introduced a new approach in "Biochemistry Teaching", a course included in the Biochemistry Graduate Program of the Biochemistry Department (Universidade Estadual de Campinas and Universidade de São Paulo). The content of the course consists of a) choosing the theme, b) selecting and organizing the topics, c) preparing written material, d) establishing the methodological strategies, e) planning the evaluation tools and, finally, f) as teachers, conducting the course as an optional summer course for undergraduate students. During the first semester the graduate students establish general and specific educational objectives, select and organize contents, decide on the instructional strategies and plan evaluation tools. The contents are explored using a wide range of strategies, which include computer-aided instruction, laboratory classes, small group teaching, a few lectures and round table discussions. The graduate students also organize printed class notes to be used by the undergraduate students. Finally, as a group, they teach the summer course. In the three versions already developed, the themes chosen were Biochemistry of Exercise (UNICAMP), Biochemistry of Nutrition (UNICAMP) and Molecular Biology of Plants (USP). In all cases the number of registrations greatly exceeded the number of places and a selection had to be made. The evaluation of the experience by both graduate and undergraduate students was very positive. Graduate students considered this experience to be unique and recommended it to their schoolmates; the undergraduate students benefited from a more flexible curriculum (more options) and gave very high scores to both the courses and the teachers.

Environmental and health education for school-age children: a transdisciplinary approach.

A brief critical analysis and suggestion for guidelines concerning environmental and health education in the elementary school are presented from the viewpoint of emerging pedagogic experiences and theoretical philosophical reflections. The major points discussed are: the importance of transdisciplinarity, the enhancement of participatory education where technical knowledge and popular wisdom meet, the planning and execution of concrete experiences which stimulate the sensations of pleasure and of admiration for nature and life, the analysis and the search for a solution to problems affecting the local reality of pupils without losing sight of global issues. A major priority is investment in teacher training, stimulating acquisition of knowledge through creative practice and formation of a critical awareness, essential for the school to clearly show its commitment to a future of greater social equality and harmony in our relationship to the environment.

[Health promotion and education: a diagnosis of sanitation conditions using participatory research and community education (São João dos Queiróz - Quixadá/Ceará, Brazil)].

This study was conducted in a rural community, São João dos Queiróz, a township in the county of Quixadá, Ceará, Brazil, using a combination of participatory research and community education in compliance with the health promotion reference and principles of the 1986 Ottawa Charter. The project was joined by representatives of several local government institutions and organizations from the grassroots community movement. The theme generating the research, as defined by an assembly meeting of the community association, was a diagnosis of sanitation conditions in the community. The starting point was the assessment of local conditions. Results showed adverse local conditions in sanitation, literacy, income, and employment. Suggestions for solving the problems were organized so as to be included in the planning agenda for local health policies. Evaluation was procedural and enriched with daily research activities. The problem-solving pedagogical approach developed during the educational process contributed to a critical reconstruction, appropriation, and sharing of the resulting knowledge.

[A method for teaching mathematics].

This paper reports on an experience in teaching mathematics in a graduate course in public health, intermingled with reflections and concepts. Students enrolled in such courses generally feel uneasy about learning mathematics. Without underrating the usual obstacles and even affinities in developing abstractions, the results suggest that a major portion of the difficulties derives not from mathematics itself, but from an oppressive experience in the past. Difficulties also relate to the construction of space in the classroom. Such a perspective involves understanding experiments and life experiences in which the subjects are involved. In short, the work focuses on how to transmit mathematics in the development of a pedagogical approach.

[Experience with games in operative groups as part of health education for diabetics].

This paper presents and discusses an educational strategy implemented in a specialized hospital clinic. The goal was to stimulate individuals to reflect on their everyday lifestyles as related to their disease, specifically diabetes mellitus. The strategy can be characterized as an educational tool from the perspective of health promotion and disease prevention and control. The experience was implemented on an interactive basis (health professionals and individual patients) with educational games in operative groups. Pedagogical techniques were used: orientation concerning diabetes mellitus, individual consultation, the operative group, and educational games (communications and learning). The techniques enabled participants to improve knowledge and exchange experiences. In addition, the health professionals gained a better understanding of the participants' experience with their illness.

[Opinions of students and educators concerning health: the public school perspective in a peripheral area of the city of São Paulo].

This study focused on prevailing concepts in society concerning adolescents' health problems and needs. Based on concerns in the field of Collective Health in relation to public policies for social protection, the study attempted to grasp the public school perspective concerning these issues. The study's theoretical reference was the social determination of the health-disease process and the view that health needs are translated into demands for changes in the harmful processes resulting from relations in the production process. Data were gathered through interviews with pedagogical coordinators and focus groups with adolescents in public schools from the Raposo Tavares School District (Municipality of S o Paulo). The results showed that the participants recognized: (1) the sphere of social determinants at the base of adolescents' health problems and (2) in addition to disease processes, a set of social problems impacting the health-disease process, highlighting drug use and violence. Health needs are translated as demands for cross-sector public social policies.

[Discovery-based teaching and learning strategies in health: problematization and problem-based learning].

Considering the changes in teaching in the health field and the demand for new ways of dealing with knowledge in higher learning, the article discusses two innovative methodological approaches: problem-based learning (PBL) and problematization. Describing the two methods' theoretical roots, the article attempts to identify their main foundations. As distinct proposals, both contribute to a review of the teaching and learning process: problematization, focused on knowledge construction in the context of the formation of a critical awareness; PBL, focused on cognitive aspects in the construction of concepts and appropriation of basic mechanisms in science. Both problematization and PBL lead to breaks with the traditional way of teaching and learning, stimulating participatory management by actors in the experience and reorganization of the relationship between theory and practice. The critique of each proposal's possibilities and limits using the analysis of their theoretical and methodological foundations leads us to conclude that pedagogical experiences based on PBL and/or problematization can represent an innovative trend in the context of health education, fostering breaks and more sweeping changes.

[Nursing curriculum: where to start and restart].

This study relies on the premise that all educational practices are based on presuppositions of philosophic and pedagogical nature, representing the curriculum, the vision of the world, perceived by the school and its professors. The leading question in this research can be formulated as: what is the professors perception on the guiding concepts of the nursing degree curriculum? 36 professors from 9 nursing schools in the State of São Paulo participated in the research answering enquiries based on the technique of Semantics Differential. The traditional, cognitive, behaviourist, self-realization and social reconstruction concepts guided this analysis. The results of the research expressed the subjects preference for postures of humanistic and social character, demonstrating the orientation for more renovating postures, as well as for more traditional postures, enabling the authors to conclude that there is no predominant guiding conception in the nursing curriculum.
