Tumor formation was studied in inbred radish lines that produce tumors on plant roots during flowering. In all radish lines under consideration, the sequences homologous to oncogenes tmr/tml of Agrobacterium tumefaciens were revealed by Southern hybridization. No sequences homologous to the tms locus of A. tumefaciens and the oncogenes of A. rhizogenes were determined. It was found that auxin sensitivity and the tumor-producing capacity were coinherited. We suggest that tumor phenotype arise as a result of a combination between agrobacterial "cytokinin" oncogenes and certain alleles of "auxin" radish genes.

We studied the effects of exogenous salicylic acid on the level of endogenous cytokinins and abscisic and salicylic acids in the tissues of leaves of phloxes contrasting in resistance against the powdery mildew causative agent: susceptible Phlox paniculata L. and resistant Ph. setacea L. Studies were carried out under the conditions of biotic stress. The initial level of salicylic and abscisic acids and cytokinins is the highest in the resistant phlox species. After treatment with salicylic species, the total level of cytokinins and endogenous salicylic acid increased in both species. When the treated phlox species were infected by the powdery mildew causative agent, the level of abscisic and salicylic acids increased in the susceptible Ph. paniculata, while that of cytokinins increased in the resistant Ph. setacea. The role of salicylic acid in the induction of plant defense reactions against phytopathogens is discussed.

Efficiency of pretreatment as foliar spray of indole-3-acetic acid, gibberellic acid and kinetin (6-furfuryl aminopurine) each ranging from 10(-7) to 10(-5) M in restoring the metabolic alterations imposed by NaCl salinity (E.C. value 4.0 m mhos/cm) was investigated in Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek. Application of NaCl resulted in about 7% and 9% decrease in phenol content in mung bean leaf and root respectively. In leaf, NaCl caused 40% increase in polyphenol oxidase enzyme activity over the control set. This effect was accentuated in root, where salinity caused 200% increase in the enzyme activity. In leaf and root of mung-bean plant, ascorbic acid content decreased about 29% and 31% respectively under salinity stress as compared with control. Ascorbic acid oxidase enzyme activity increased under stress by about 55% and 23% respectively in leaf and root. It was noted that all the three growth regulators used in the present study were able to overcome to variable extents the adverse effects of stress imposed by NaCl solution.

The genetic constructions based on integrative vector pGV3850 were used to introduce bacterial genes xyl and T-cyt into potato cells. The transformation was carried out using the leaf-disc method with modifications. A special system for obtaining regenerants from explants of potato in vitro plants or calli has been designed that permitted the selection of transgenic shoots. The presence of the genes in potato genome has been proved by testing the NPTII and glucoisomerase activities. The transgenic plants expressing T-cyt gene differed from the wild type in sharp decrease of the apical dominance.
