Immigration trends in France since 1946 are first reviewed. The author notes that immigration peaked in the period prior to the oil crisis of the early 1970s. Tighter immigration controls adopted in 1974 have affected the characteristics of the immigrant population concerning intention to return to country of origin, length of stay, and reuniting of family members. Consideration is also given to immigrant characteristics by nationality, unemployment among foreigners, and fertility differentials. "The second part of the article examines the new terms of the immigration problem (the alternative between the foreigners' integration and the maintainance of the immigrant statute) and the programs to be proposed." Trends in international migration in the Netherlands are reviewed. Consideration is given to the emigration of aliens and nationals from the Netherlands, the effects of immigration on population growth, the distribution of aliens in the Netherlands by country of origin, and immigration by sex and family type and relationship. The author notes that "in 1987, 96 thousand persons immigrated into the Netherlands, a 10% rise compared with 1986. Emigration dropped 5% to...52 thousand...." (SUMMARY IN ENG)

"This study examines the main trends of various models of international migration for the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and places emphasis on the volume and direction of various models of migration at present. Permanent migration, illegal migration in search of work and compulsory migration (refugees) are discussed in some detail with reference to the occasional difficulty of distinguishing between the various types of migration. When discussing the volume and sources of migration, the study indicates some of its motives and implications at origin and at destination and presents some of the future prospects and major factors that contribute to the continuation of the flow of the different types of migration." The geographical scope is worldwide.
"The present migration situation is analysed in regard to the labour market, the legal status of migrants, return flows and reintegration, and the position of second generation migrants.... In the second part of the paper the author attempts to discern the future of migration in Europe on the basis of existing demographic trends in Europe and the world, present trends [in] the labour market, and current technological changes. In this context he offers an outline for the Yugoslav migration perspective." (SUMMARY IN ENG)
"This paper analyzes the effects of changes in fertility, mortality, and net migration patterns on the growth of school entry-age populations in three states (Florida, South Carolina, and West Virginia) over the period 1950-1990. Fertility changes have had the largest influence on growth of these young populations, as common sense suggests. Changing migration patterns have been quite important, however, in explaining intertemporal and interspatial variations in growth rates."
"The estimated number of immigrants [in the Netherlands] for 1994 is 104 thousand, implying a decrease of some 15 thousand compared to the preceding year.... There were approximately 79 thousand emigrants, a slight increase (4 thousand) compared to 1993. The resulting net migration decreased from 44 thousand persons in 1993 to 25 thousand persons in 1994. In 1995 a temporary increase of (net) immigration is expected, due to the increase of the number of asylum seekers in 1994.... After 1995 projected net migration rapidly declines to 35 thousand." "This article traces the changing role of migration in the Federated States of Micronesia during the twentieth century. We begin with a brief geographical, historical, and cultural overview of each state in the country, summarizing demographic change over the past 70 years and providing a foundation for understanding much of the area's past and present human mobility. Attention then turns to migration within the Federated States, focusing on data from censuses conducted in 1930, 1973, and 1980 and using supplemental information when possible. Emigration to destinations outside the country is examined briefly. Finally, we discuss potential causes and impacts of mobility in this emerging island nation."
