[The condition of systemic and organ blood circulation in patients with frostbite].

This paper is based on results obtained from 130 experiments and from clinical observation of 98 patients with different degrees of frostbite. Systemic and organic blood circulation was investigated by means of electrocardiography, phonocardiography, rheocardiography, rheovasography, and oscillography for the purpose of establishing arterial pressure and amount of circulating blood. Observations made soon after the event of frostbite included weakening of cardiac contraction with drop in systolic discharge, vasoconstriction of affected extremities, primarily in the system of microcirculation, and quantitative reduction of circulating blood.

[Characteristics of hemodynamics and the oxygen balance during operation for massive pulmonary artery thromboembolism with artificial blood circulation].

The experience of artificial blood circulation application in 45 patients during surgical intervention performance for the pulmonary artery thromboembolism and vena cava inferior thrombosis was summarized. Peculiarities of the artificial blood circulation preparation and conduction were depicted and characteristic of the hemodynamics and oxygen metabolism indexes on various stages of operative treatment was presented. Analysis of results of treatment in patients after the operation was conducted. The efficacy of the operative treatment conduction was shown.

Effects of replenishing qi, promoting blood circulation and resolving phlegm on vascular endothelial function and blood coagulation system in senile patients with hyperlipemia.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the curative effect of the method of replenishing qi, promoting blood circulation and resolving phlegm on senile hyperlipemia and its effects on vascular endothelial function and blood coagulation system. METHOD: 96 patients with senile hyperlipemia were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group. 56 patients in the treatment group orally took danshen jueming granules while 40 patients in the control group orally took xuezhikang capsules. Observed were indexes of blood lipid, vascular endothelial function, blood coagulation system and safety. RESULTS: After treatment, the treatment group was obviously superior to the control group (P < 0.05) in reducing plasma total cholesterol (TC) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) as well as in the ratio of thromboxane B2 (TXB2) to 6-keto-prostaglandin F1alpha (6-keto-PGF1alpha), D-dimer (D-D) and fibrinogen (FIB). CONCLUSION: Danshen Jueming Granules have the effect of regulating metabolism of blood lipid, and improving vascular endothelial function and blood coagulation system in senile patients with hyperlipemia.

[The effect of isoflurane or sevoflurane on circulating blood volume--study under spontaneous breathing].

Changes in circulating blood volume during isoflurane or sevoflurane anesthesia under spontaneous breathing were investigated by the dual indicator dilution method in 13 mongrel dogs. The animals were randomly divided into three groups; control (C) group n = 5, isoflurane (I) group n = 5, and sevoflurane (S) group n = 5. Changes in circulating blood volume (ml.kg-1) at 0, 0.5, 1.0 MAC were 87.7 +/- 8.2-->88.7 +/- 5.0-->91.0 +/- 5.9 in the I group and 84.4 +/- 7.0-->91.4 +/- 7.7-->91.4 +/- 10.2 in the S group, respectively. In the S group, circulating blood volume and plasma volume increased significantly, while in the I group the volumes tended merely to increase. Arterial carbon dioxide tension (PaCO2) in the I and S groups increased significantly at 0.5 and 1.0 MAC, but similar changes were also noted (not significantly) in the C group. Mean arterial pressure, mean pulmonary arterial pressure, and pulmonary capillary wedge pressure tended to increase at 0.5 and 1.0 MAC in the C and I groups, but tended to decrease in the S group. The results suggest that the increase in vascular compliance with sevoflurane under spontaneous breathing has resulted in the increase in plasma volume and circulating blood volume.

[Parellel blood circulation with oxygenation of blood in severe poisoning with carbon monoxide fumes].

The authors present an analysis of treatment in 141 patients with acute carboxyhemoglobinemia, in 110 of them severe intoxication was noted. All these patients were treated taking into account the degree of intoxication, the period of time elapsed since the moment of the intoxication till the onset of therapy, and the presence of biochemical shifts in blood. In 31 patients being in an extremely poor comatous state with considerable disorders in gas balance, persistant hemodynamic disturbances and manifest humoral shifts a parallel perfusion with extracorporeal oxygenation of blood was performed with medical drug therapy in the background. The immediate effect was found to be quite favourable, however, 19 patients died in different terms as a result of subsequent complications, most frequently due to pneumonia and meningoencephalitis.

Dorsal aortic impedance in stage 24 chick embryo following acute changes in circulating blood volume.

The effects of acute changes in circulating blood volume on embryonic vascular hemodynamics were evaluated with the use of input impedance. We simultaneously measured dorsal aortic pressure with a servo-null system and flow velocity with a 20-MHz pulsed Doppler system in n = 90 stage 24 chick embryos. We withdrew or infused 1,3, or 5 microliters of blood via a second-order vitelline vein (n = 10 per group). In addition, we withdrew and then infused or infused and then withdrew 3 microliters (n = 5 per group). Characteristic impedance, peripheral resistance, arterial compliance and elastance, and hydraulic power as well as basic hemodynamic parameters were evaluated on the basis of the three-element windkessel model. In response to withdrawal, mean and pulse pressure, mean flow, arterial compliance, and hydraulic power decreased, whereas peripheral resistance and arterial elastance increased in a dose-dependent manner. Results in response to infusion were converse in effect. Characteristic impedance was unchanged by volume alternations. Oscillatory fraction of hydraulic power was higher than mature circulation and remained relatively constant during interventions, which indicates well-regulated energy efficiency for vascular growth in the embryonic circulation. A hysteresis relevant to altered peripheral resistance was present after multiple interventions. Embryonic vasculature is sensitive to circulating blood volume and preserve blood pressure at the expense of blood flow. In the absence of autonomic innervation, embryonic vascular tone may be regulated by mechanical properties of the vessel (the law of Laplace) and/or vasoactive substances.
