[Creating an integrated nursing curriculum].

During the last two decades, Brazilian society has gone through great changes into political, ideological and economical fields. These changes left their strings into society, specially in population health. The nurse formation based on the Law n(o) 5540/68 and on the Statement n(o) 163/72, no more meets population demands. Since 1992, the Nursing Faculty of UERJ-FEUerj intensifies the reflection movement upon teaching-learning process searching for transforming its own reality. The making of this project presents two complementary and important reasons: FEUerj docents and discents' desire in elaborating a curriculum which searches for nurses' formation that articulates teaching-work-community, theory and practice, based on a Critical Theory of Education, on the line of PROBLEMATIZATION, and the accomplishment of Statement n(o) 314/94 from the CFE and from the Letter of Order MEC n(o) 1171/15/dez/94. From debating, the professional profile has been defined from the social environment where the profession is performed and the alumnate's characteristics; area determination or group of attributions, according to professional praxis adequation, concept hierachization, processes, etc., which in the process of 'classification and syntheses' of knowledge results into a netlike chained and related tree. In the first phase of the curriculum study, it has diagnosed as principal condition, the actual curriculum 'DECONTEXTUALIZATION' and the 'US' to be faced to lead it to an end the Curriculum Reformulation Proposal. The Process of Pedagogical Abilitation for professors, workshops, researches on the desirable and present profile, seminars, performance, abilities and principles systematization, identification of areas which compose the integrated curriculum, subjects localization into areas and articulation between professional subjects and other activities, has been implemented. Based on this work on the problematized pedagogy first step, an instrument 'Research on the Professional Profile for the Nursing Graduation Course', was built, identifying the performances and principles which sustain them on each subject making the present profile clear and desirable to docents and discents.

[Children and medications: educational software on drug administration in pediatrics].

The purpose of this study is the development and evaluation of an educational software on the administration of pediatric medicaments called "Children and medication". The pedagogical framework of Robert M. Gagné and the Three Stages Model, proposed by Price (1991) to develop CAI programs, were used. The software utilizes multimedia resources and is composed of four topics: the child, the medicament, the person who administers it and the administering of the medication. After the development of the program, it went through an evaluation process which was divided in three phases and had the participation of system analyst professionals and the target population to which the software was designed. Data analysis of the software showed that most of the items received excellent approval by the evaluators. It was observed that the software was accepted by the users and that it contributed for the nursing teaching of pediatric medicament administering through a new resource.

[Curricular guidelines and promotion of conditions for change in nursing training].

This text analyzes the article "Curricular Guidelines and Pedagogical Projects", an object for discussion in this REBEn's (Brazilian Review of Nursing) section. The authors expose their opinion as to the complexity of this theme and highlight two points coming out of this debate--the issue of the reproduction--problematization opposition in respect to curricular reform, and the content of curricular projects aiming at changes in nurse education. The author concentrates her analysis on the curricular guidelines and changes, beyond the text, by highlighting the great importance of national policies of investment to guarantee favorable conditions for the necessary curricular changes. She parallels the educational to the health sector in order to assess the creation of curricular guidelines, and outlines strategies for their implementation. She stresses the notion of competencies as possibilities to give rise to a new kind of worker, by strengthening the issue of social responsibility placed upon education for the constitution of citizens. The importance placed on educators qualification is discussed when talking about competencies development, besides the investment on a new professional ethics, as well as our difficulty for going beyond preestablished notions, in such a way that favorable strategies are generated for developing self-criticism and professional responsibility.

[Nursing teaching in times of change].

This paper is a reflection on the teaching of nursing in Brazil. Our main goal is to trace it from 1923 to 2003, trying to identify any changes occurred and the direction the nursing education process has taken over this time frame. Our analysis concentrates mainly on recent decades (eighties and nineties), a period when the country's redemocratization process was undertaken and a wide debate on the health and educational fields was initiated. It focuses on the Sanitation Reform Movement in Brazil and on its contribution to the training or health professionals and nursing teachers. As of that period, a wide discussion has been going on among professors, students, service nurses, and other individuals, in an effort to build a political-pedagogical project that would stand out as a political accomplishment for the nurse profession. The collective efforts seen during this process surpass all the changes in the history of nursing teaching, because of the social relevance of its conceptual frameworks, as well as due to the effective participation of all actors involved in the educational process.

[Interdisciplinary education for health: planning nurse undergraduate programs].

Interdisciplinary teaching as an educational alternative which allows for global education of individuals who are also professionals is shown in this article as an educational planning report organized by the undergraduate Nursing program from Regional University of Blumenau (FURB), located in the city of Blumenau, in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. We show this didactic-pedagogical perspective from a theoretical perspective that presents ethics as an alternative for an education process aimed at the global community. This is a didactic proceeding supported by the methodology of "culture circles", proposed by Paulo Freire. Through them one searches for the integration of relevant contents to a nurse training centered on essential principles, cognitive bases, and relevant themes.

[Educating a nurse for basic health care].

This work aims at describing the experience of the 1st grade class in the Nursing Course at the Faculty of Medicine of Marilia (FAMEMA) in 2002. In 1998, a new Political-Pedagogical Project (PPP) was started aiming at educating a critical and reflexive professional, capable of teamwork, by promoting nursing care in a humane way. An integrated curriculum and the problematisation methodology were adopted as strategies to implement the PPP, tailoring education to the job market. Among the competencies to be developed toward basic health care, they employed a strategy to integrate 1st and 2nd grade classes in a microarea by applying the MAPP technique.

[The critical-reflexive teaching-learning process].

This study aimed at showing how the learning process is being built in the FAMEMA nursing course and identifying the different aspects of this process perceived by students based on the logics of the political-pedagogical project. The subjects of the research were fourth-grade students in the course. Research techniques used were focus groups and a semi-structured interview. Empirical material was organized according to the collective subject discourse technique, followed by the application of content analysis in the thematic modality. In the analysis of empiric material, it was highlighted that learning occurs in a process with successive approaches, throughout life, being graduation the beginning of a process. They experienced things in which they shared knowledge, conflicts, group work and teamwork.

[Challenges in the implementation of a curriculum by competencies].

This article aims at describing and analyzing the experience of teachers of a state school located in Pernambuco in the implementation of the curriculum by competencies in the technical nursing course. National guidelines for technical-level professional education were used as a theoretical referential. The technical nursing course was organized in four non-terminal modules, with a growing complexity in contents and specific competencies. Among the greatest difficulties found during curricular re-structuring, there are the teachers' and students' resistance concerning the adoption of new pedagogical practices and of a methodology to assess the constructed competencies. With the adoption of a new curriculum, there was the qualitative growth of the teachers and students' body, and an increase in the autonomy of the school to set out and update curricular components.

[Insights about the challenge of nursing education administration].

This article aims to trigger ideas and to point elements to for leaders' development to nursing education administration. While assuming the administrative role is necessary to understand the dimension of the educational process as something that goes beyond the simple knowledge transference. We present issues related to the nursing education dimensions, about the building a political pedagogical guideline to actions of professional development, based in the policies for the nursing curriculum. We mention the role of faculty leaders in the courses external and internal evaluation. We also present the need to redirect nurses' education to prepare them to respond properly (technically, scientifically and politically) to the workforce demand.
