[A case of olfactory neuroblastoma and Marcumar therapy (author's transl)].

Although nasal polypectomy is a frequently performed procedure in ENT Clinics, tissues taken may only seldom be histologically examined. We have recently uncovered an esthesioneuroblastoma during a routine polypectomy, and believe that even slightly changed "polyps" or fleshy or pinkish-gray appearing "polyps" seen with dicumarol therapy may mask tissue malignancy.

CT of tumors and tumor-like conditions of the paranasal sinuses.

High-resolution CT is an ideal technique for evaluating tumors of the paranasal sinuses. It offers excellent detail of both bony and soft tissue structures. CT can demonstrate a tumor in its early stage and can reveal the exact extent of a lesion for optimal staging prior to treatment. It is important in follow-up and can be used to document residual or recurrent tumor with a high degree of accuracy.

[Neuroblastoma of the olfactory nerve].

The histopathology of neuroblastomas of the olfactory nerve, especially the difficult differential diagnosis is described by means of our own observations, and compared with other less differentiated malignant tumours of the inner nose. Ultrastructural results are presented, histogenesis and classification of olfactory neuroblastomas in neuroepithelioma, neurocytoma and neuroblastoma are discussed. The literature is reviewed, whereby clinical symptoms, therapy and prognosis of these tumours are described.

CT of the nasal cavity.

CT demonstrates nasal anatomy extremely well. The intimate relationship of the nasal cavity to the cerebral, orbital, paranasal sinus, nasopharyngeal, and oral tissues is noted. Examples of benign and malignant neoplasms, inflammatory processes, including intrinsic and extrinsic mass lesions are utilized to demonstrate the value of CT in assessing the nasal cavity in conjunction with its surrounding tissues. Congenital and traumatic lesions also are demonstrated to the same advantage.

Diagnosis, Differential↗

[Computer tomography of esthesioneuroblastoma].

Aesthesioneuroblastomas are rare malignant nasal tumours of neural origin. Clinical symptoms depend upon the extent of the lesion. Five cases of tomography visualised the tumours as non-homogeneous soft tissue masses in the nasal cavity and the ethmoid cells with a varying infiltration of the adjacent paranasal sinuses. Radical surgery and radiation therapy are recommended. CT should be an integral part of annual follow-up studies.

Spinal cord medulloepithelioma in a dog.

Medulloepithelioma, an embryonal neural tumor, was diagnosed in a 6-month-old Bullmastiff. Clinical signs of incomplete, upper motor neuron, transverse myelopathy involving the hindlimbs were observed on examination. Myelography was required to identify the cause of clinical abnormality. The tumor involved the L1 spinal cord segment.
