If guidelines are properly followed, porcelain laminate veneers can offer enviable and predictable results. Advantages of veneers include a highly esthetic outcome, durability and stability, all accomplished with a reasonably conservative approach. This case study illustrates the use of veneers to restore a peg lateral incisor of a young patient.

Bulimia nervosa is among the most common health problems in contemporary society. It is a self-induced weight loss syndrome associated with distinct dental manifestations involving physical and psychologic symptoms. It is characterized by recurrent binge-purge episodes that occur at least once a day. This article describes the complete-mouth rehabilitation of a bulimic patient with a generalized enamel erosion of her dentition and a poor esthetic appearance. Porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations were used as the definitive treatment. Good esthetics and high self-esteem were the final results. Comprehensive restorative therapy was applied in this clinical case report to achieve both function and esthetics in a demanding situation.
PURPOSE: The suitable buccolingual width and the location of occlusal rest seats for removable partial dentures have not been scientifically established. The aim of the present study was to use three-dimensional geometric analysis to evaluate the effects of buccolingual width and the location of occlusal rest seats on load transmission to the abutments for tooth-supported removable partial dentures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A tooth-supported portion of a maxillary removable partial denture with two conventional circumferential cast clasps and an indirect retainer was analyzed. Occlusal loading of 100 N was applied to the buccal mesial cuspal incline 2.0 mm from the central fossa of the first molar or to the lingual mesial cuspal tip. Four combinations of position and width (wide, buccal shift, middle, and lingual shift) were simulated. RESULTS: For buccal loading, the wide rests and buccal-shift rests produced lower tensile forces at the indirect retainer. For lingual loading, the buccal-shift rests produced the lowest compressive force to the anterior abutment. CONCLUSION: Based on the tooth-supported removable partial dentures that were analyzed, buccal shifting of the rest seats seems to be advantageous for load transmission to the abutments.

In restorative dentistry, aesthetics often depends upon the creation of symmetry at the patient's midline. This concept can be taken further in that an aesthetic smile has symmetry and harmony between horizontal and vertical planes. This article demonstrates a prosthodontic alternative to orthodontic therapy for patients who require an immediate change to their smile rather than submitting to the latter's extended treatment period. While orthodontic treatment remains the standard for the majority of these cases, other modalities are required for patients who refuse it.
Clinical crown lengthening procedures (CCLP) are used to enhance aesthetics and/or provide adequate tooth structure for placement and retention of a restoration while respecting the attachment apparatus. When restoration margins extend beyond the biologic width, inflammation and anatomic changes can develop. Anterior CCLP are indicated to increase the labial exposure of the clinical crown and/or the sound tooth structure coronal to the bone crest. Preservation of the interproximal papillae is mandatory to obtain desirable final results in the aesthetic region. This article illustrates various methods of CCLP used to achieve successful oral rehabilitation in the anterior maxilla.
