Legal issues associated with sexual activity between adults and minors in Texas: a review.

Recent research on adolescent mothers and the age of their sexual partners has stimulated discussion of whether legal action should be taken against adult men who engage in sexual intercourse with minors. A nonrandom poll that started as casual questions but extended over 6 months to 52 doctors initiated this review. It became apparent that the primary care physicians (pediatrics, family medicine, and internal medicine) had little, if any, understanding of some key legal facts in Texas associated with adolescent sexuality and pregnancy, especially when adult partners are involved. This article provides a legislative overview for practitioners in an attempt to clarify the law, remediate any deficiency of knowledge, and remind physicians of their role in reporting sexual abuse of minors.

[Oedipus complex in the case of sexual abuse].

The paper describes a specific form of Oedipus complex that may occur as a result of sexual abuse. The author emphasises that formation of the image of one parent due to actual sexual abuse and the activity of the child's (patient's) own iscestual impulses causes that the second parent is experienced as a terrorizing and revenging rival. As a result, the child in his/her psyche, must face not only his/her own incestual desires, but also the parental objects, which do not provide any support, sense of safety or stability of existence. The author illustrates his thesis with a summary of three sessions of analytic psychotherapy of the patient with whom he worked in Cassel Hospital in London. In the described case, it can be seen how the patient's involvement in the therapy and her good will connected with it stimulated her incestual desires addressed at the analytician, what, in turn, activised the patient's destructive, punishing behaviour.

[Child sexual abuse. How to deal with suspected abuse?].

Sexual abuse in children is defined as the exploitation of children by adults for the sexual gratification of the latter. A particular problem is sexual violence within the family. The chronicity of the abuse, by means of which the child is precipitated into role conflicts is typical. Whether inside or outside the family, sexual abuse almost always has negative effects on the child's development. When such abuse is suspected, a gentle physical examination and an empathetic age-adapted psychiatric diagnostic work-up are indicated. The overriding objective of an intervention is to protect the child. The indication of psychotherapy is determined by the severity of the symptomatology. Among other things, prevention strategies are aimed at increasing the autonomy of the child.

[Sibling relations in processing sexual trauma: the film "The Celebration"]].

Movies appeal as a subject of psychoanalytical art interpretation due to their structural closeness to "scenical understanding" and enrich our Insight into human relationships. The movie Das Pest is worth seeing because of its particular aesthetic form and because of its message about sibling relationships. According to the assessment of film journalists the movie shows the dismantling of middle class society and the reinscenation of destructive violence. In this author's interpretation, however, the movie leads out of passing violence on through the generations and herein differs from numerous current movies about siblings. The movie is about the process of a constructive development in the reciprocal relationships between four siblings and shows this in the formal structure of a film. With countertransference and our "viewing habits" the author discusses why this development could be overlooked. The movie shows neither a sibling fixation nor an idealization of sibling love as a regressive, timeless topos, but rather a horizontal relationship process. This is open towards partners and allows for a conciliatory attitude towards the parents. The movie is able to show this process conclusively under the burden of intergenerational violence and in its creativity enriches our image of sibling relationships.
