Acinetobacter baumannii is rarely encountered as a pathogen causing community-acquired skin and soft tissue infection. A 79-year-old man had a fever for 3 days accompanied by pain and swelling over the left leg around an old scar caused by a dog bite 10 years ago. Two sets of blood cultures and a wound culture all yielded A. baumannii. The patient's condition deteriorated initially but recovered completely after 3 weeks of meropenem treatment. This case suggests that A. baumannii should be included among pathogens with the potential to cause complicated skin infection in the community.
AIM: To study the time of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of spin-lattice serum relaxation (T1) in the dynamics of an infectious process in patients with different forms of erysipelas. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 37 patients with different clinical forms of erysipelas were examined in the acute period of the disease and in the early period of convalescence. RESULTS: A statistically significant increase in T1 NMR was ascertained in patients with bullous hemorrhagic erysipelas as compared with those with erythematous form. CONCLUSION: Pronounced changes in the functional status of serum in patients with hemorrhagic forms of erysipelas are of great importance in the development of the local hemorrhagic syndrome.

The author suggests an original and novel method for the surgical treatment of post-thrombotic hypodermatitis, which involves, in association with the elimination of all long reflux vessels, the incision of the skin along the healthy edge of hypodermatitis. This is followed, after the elimination of short reflux vessels from the sub-fascial compartment, by the taking of pieces of sub-fascial aponeurosis which ensure drainage of the hypodermis. After one year, 7 of 12 patients were apparently totally cured. After 2 years, only 2 patients still had slight signs of hypodermatitis. At the present time, patients are followed up with elastic compression of moderate intensity.
