The structure of tumours derived from mouse submandibular gland epithelium transformed in vitro.

The morphology and ultrastructure of 48 primary tumours established from 5 cell lines of adult mouse salivary gland epithelial cells transformed in vitro are described. Tumours from 4 of the cells lines were adenocarcinomas with a wide range of structural variation, and resembled human salivary gland carcinomas. The fifth cell line produced tumours with carcinomatous and sarcomatous elements.

Surgical treatment of drooling by bilateral parotid duct ligation and submandibular gland resection.

We have followed 14 patients for up to 6 years after they had submaxillary gland resections and parotid duct ligations for drooling. Good to excellent results were found in more than 85 percent of them in the control saliva, and there have been no recurrences or fistulae. This procedure is technically simple to do, and it is associated with less morbidity than surgical relocation of the parotid ducts.

A case of granulomatous sialadenitis of the submandibular gland.

Granulomatous inflammation of the major salivary glands is very rare and may be due to obstruction. Little attention has been paid to this condition. The reaction is caused by extravasation of mucus, as seen in the common mucocele of the minor salivary glands. A case of granulomatous inflammation of the submandibular gland caused by obstruction is presented. The etiology of granulomatous sialadenitis is reviewed.
