Primary carcinoma of the fallopian tube is uncommon and is often treated using regimens active in ovarian carcinoma. Evidence is scant that such therapies benefit patients with fallopian tube carcinoma. Between December 1979 and July 1988, we treated 18 patients who had adenocarcinoma of the fallopian tube with the combination of cisplatin (50 mg/m2), doxorubicin (50 mg/m2), and cyclophosphamide (500 mg/m2) administered intravenously on 1 day every 28 days. Histologic confirmation of fallopian tube carcinoma was obtained before entry in the study. Three patients had stage I disease, five had stage II, nine had stage III, and one had stage IV. Sixteen patients received the combination therapy as first-line treatment after cytoreductive surgery, and two patients received it for recurrent carcinoma. Seven patients had clinically measurable disease at the start of therapy. Two of these patients had a complete clinical response, two had stable disease, and three had progressive disease. Eight of the 15 patients with stages II-IV disease underwent second-look laparotomy; four had a complete response to therapy and four had a partial response, making the overall response rate 53%. The toxicity of the regimen was moderate. The median survival was 81 months. Patients with stages II-IV disease had a median survival of 43.9 months and a progression-free survival of 22.5 months. This regimen appears to be active in fallopian tube carcinoma and can result in response rates comparable to those reported for epithelial ovarian cancer.
Lymphogenic, hematogenic and implanted metastases in 10 women with carcinoma of the uterine tube, treated at the gynecological clinic of the National Oncological Center for the period of 1977-1988, were described. The patients were of the age of 44 to 65 years. Lymphogenic metastases were discovered in: iliac lymph nodes (l. n.) in 4 women, inguinal l. n.--in 2 patients, supraclavicular l. n. in 1 woman and paraaortic l. n.--in one woman. Metastases were found on the anterior abdominal wall in 3 patients, but in two cases in ovaries, omentum, liver, lung. They were discovered in other abdominal organs in single cases. Metastases occurred from 5 months to 8 years since the onset of the disease. Eight patients died from 1 to 3 years after establishment of metastases, but 2 women continued treatment for 2 and 3 years respectively.

Case report a primary metastasizing carcinoma of the fallopian tube with radical operation and 4 cycles of antineoplastic chemotherapy (cisplatin and treosulfan). Tumor markers decreased to normal level following primary treatment and the first chemotherapy cycle. After six months we did and immunoscintigraphy and second-look-laparotomy including the Regaj-procedure. There was a histological complete remission. Additionally we give a review about cytostatic treatment of this cancer the last then years. Radical operation combined with adjuvant chemotherapy is said to be successful.
We have used immunolymphoscintigraphy (ILS) alone or in combination with immunoscintigraphy with 131I-labeled F(ab')2 fragments of monoclonal OC 125 antibodies to improve detection of retroperitoneal lymph node metastases of ovarian and fallopian tube cancer. ILS was carried out with bilateral dorsopedal s.c. injections on nine patients and with bilateral iliopelvic injections into the ischiorectal fossa on two other patients. Radioimaging was performed 2-4 times between 0 and 5 days. An additional dose of labeled antibody fragments was given i.v., and imaging was done 2-3 days later. Conventional immunoscintigraphy without preceding ILS was carried out on another nine patients. Dorsopedal ILS improved detection of pelvic and paraaortic lymph node metastases. Malignant lymph nodes were detectable as early as 3 h after s.c. injection of the tracer. Combined results of ILS and immunoscintigraphy in 16 surgically verified cases indicated a true positive finding in 9 patients, true negative finding in 5, false positive in one, and false negative in 1. Calculated from these figures the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the method were 90, 83, and 88%, respectively. Involved lymph nodes were found more frequently in those patients whose serum CA 125 concentration was elevated demonstrating that an elevated serum CA 125 level does not preclude successful radioimmunodetection.
Ovarian and fallopian tube carcinomas tend to spread by surface implantation through the peritoneal cavity and remain principally confined to the intra-abdominal space for prolonged periods of time. Because of the spread pattern, patients with these diseases may be candidates for intraperitoneal (IP) therapy. The authors reviewed hospital records of 137 patients who had subcutaneous access ports and intraperitoneal catheters (Port-A-Cath) placed between August 1985 and July 1987 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). Of these 137 patients, 106 received IP therapy at MSKCC and were evaluable for this retrospective study. The data extracted were: patient characteristics (age, histology, site, stage, prior therapy), total number of times ports were accessed, reasons for access, catheter function, catheter-related problems, and the total number of IP protocols involved during study time. The multiple uses of the IP catheter were: intraperitoneal chemotherapy or immunotherapy, drainage of ascites for patients' comfort and cytological analysis, a combination of drainage and IP treatments. Problems evaluated in association with use were: catheter function (ability to inject and/or drain), incidence and degree of pain during IP treatment, incidence and severity of infection, and medical and nursing procedures used to manage catheter dysfunction. A total of 16 catheters were removed for various reasons: infection (6); poor distribution of IP fluid (2); and catheter non-function (8). Of those, seven were replaced and IP treatment resumed. The overall rate of serious infection was 8.5% (9 infections in 8 patients). Major complications were infrequent and responded to medical or surgical treatment. This article describes our experience with the implanted system.
Four cases of primary carcinoma of the fallopian tube treated at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University during a 20-year period were reviewed. The mean age was 54 years. The most common presenting symptoms were watery vaginal discharge, abnormal uterine bleeding and abdominal pain. A palpable abdominal or pelvic mass was also a common physical finding. The preoperative diagnosis was correct in three patients. The possibility of getting an early and correct preoperative diagnosis of this disease is also discussed. All of the patients in this report were in stage I & II. The initial treatment consisted of total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with postoperative radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
An example of a unique oncocytic and mucinous lesion of the fallopian tube epithelium, found incidentally in the postpartum period, is presented. The histogenetic nature of this lesion and its ultrastructural and immunohistochemical features are discussed.
The primary fallopian tube carcinoma is one of the least frequent tumors of the female genital tract, its incidence is from .2 to 1.5%. Until now exist almost 1,200 reported cases in the world literature. Our work was done in 15 years, and we found three primary tube adenocarcinomas. A review of the worldwide and national literature, was done.

Twenty-six patients with infertility, from two to ten years, associated to 21 bilateral and 5 unilateral (with contralateral salpingectomy) cornual polyps, underwent a microsurgical procedure, either by resection and anastomosis in 19 cases, or a simple polypectomy in 5 cases and a mixed procedure in 2 cases. The rate of patency, at least for one tube, was 88.5%. The rate of intra-uterine pregnancies was 46.4% (10/26 cases, 38.5%, achieved a full term pregnancy). It is concluded that the surgical procedure, either resection of the intra-mural segment of the tube, or a simple polypectomy, must be considered in case of large polyps, after at least three years of infertility.
Twenty-seven patients with carcinoma of the fallopian tube were treated at the First Obstet. Gynecol. Clinic, University of Milan. Nineteen of them had the primary surgical procedure in our center and accounted for 2% of tubal and ovarian carcinomas. The others had been operated elsewhere. Another primary genital cancer occurred in 7 of these women and a breast carcinoma was recorded in the history of other 2. At laparotomy, 11 tumors were Stage I, 9 Stage II, and 7 Stage III. Postoperative adjuvant therapy was not homogenous, however chemotherapy was given to about 59% of patients. Five years survival rate was 65% for Stage I, 34% for Stage II and 17% for Stage III. The discussion deals with early diagnosis, prognostic and/or therapeutic role of pelvic and/or aortic lymphadenectomy and effectiveness of adjuvant therapy.
