Migration and circulation in Ecuador.

"This study investigates labor mobility in Ecuador as a function of the socioeconomic structure of places and personal attributes of migrants and circulators (short-term movers).... Particular attention is given to the role of agrarian change in altering established migration and circulation patterns." The author finds that "circulation may significantly alter family organization and the role of women in many Ecuadorian communities."

Early return of Sri Lankan migrants in the Middle East.

The author examines early return migration patterns of labor migrants from Sri Lanka in the Middle East. "Attention [is given] to the reasons why a considerable number of migrants return to their country of origin prematurely.... Differentials in the duration of stay in the host country, as well as some of the consequences of early return migration for the migrant and his family [are discussed].... The data used for this article are based primarily on a random survey held among 899 return migrants, 858 family members of current migrants and 409 non-migrants...[for] the period December 1985 to July 1986." International migration and ethnic minorities: new fields for post-war sociology in the Federal Republic of Germany.

A review of studies concerning international migration and the development of ethnic minorities in the Federal Republic of Germany is presented. "This review will emphasize primarily the sociological literature in the Federal Republic of Germany in the context of developments since 1960. In addition to a discussion of the key issues and concepts employed, empirical research in the areas of social problems, housing and urban questions, education, the second generation, and return migration, among others, will be treated." Benefits of migration as a personal strategy in Nazare, Portugal.

"This article analyzes the causes, patterns and results of involvement in international wage labor migration for Nazare, a Portuguese fishing village and tourist resort. Some migrate permanently, others return to invest locally, and yet others only work abroad part of each year. Data indicate that international migration is a successful strategy for coping with a restrictive local opportunity structure. International migrants have more income, savings, capital goods, consumer goods and automobiles than non-migrants or those who only migrate within Portugal."
