Vascularized free fibular transfer combined with autografting for the management of fracture nonunions associated with radiation therapy.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the functional results, rates of union, and complications associated with vascularized free fibular transfer combined with autografting for the treatment of nonunions in previously irradiated bone. METHODS: Seventeen patients who had had eighteen vascularized free fibular transfers combined with autografting for the treatment of nonunion of a fracture in previously irradiated bone were included in this study. There were eleven female patients and six male patients. Eight patients had a bone neoplasm and nine, a soft-tissue neoplasm. The diagnosis was Ewing sarcoma in four patients; lymphoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma in two patients each; and cavernous hemangioma, metastatic breast carcinoma, reticulum-cell sarcoma, myxosarcoma, hemangiopericytoma, and fibrosarcoma in one patient each. The remaining patient had a soft-tissue tumor for which the diagnosis was not known. All patients received radiation therapy. The average dose was 5564 centigray. There were no recurrent tumors. The average interval between the radiation therapy and the original fracture was 111 months. The fracture was in the femur in thirteen patients, in the humerus in three, and in the tibia in one. All patients had operative or nonoperative treatment, or both, of the initial fracture, and two had iliac-crest bone-grafting after the initial open reduction and internal fixation procedure. The ages of the patients ranged from thirteen to eighty-two years at the time of the vascularized free fibular transfer. All fibular transfers were applied as onlay grafts because no nonunion was associated with a large segmental defect. Cancellous autogenous bone graft from the iliac crest was used as an additional graft at the proximal and distal junctions of the graft with the bone and at the fracture site in all patients. The average duration of follow-up after the vascularized free fibular transfer was fifty-seven months (range, twenty-eight to 112 months). RESULTS: Sixteen of the eighteen fracture sites united, after an average of 9.4 months (range, three to twenty-four months). Thirteen patients had an excellent result, one had a good result, two had a fair result, and one had a failure of treatment. Four patients had an infection, including one who continued to have a nonunion. The other three patients had union after treatment with antibiotics, debridement, and removal of the hardware. Another patient who had a recalcitrant nonunion eventually required an above-the-knee amputation. CONCLUSIONS: On the basis of this review, we suggest that microvascular fibular transfer combined with autografting is an appropriate treatment option for difficult nonunions associated with previously irradiated bone.

Results of hyperamplification of centrosomes in naturally developing tumors of dogs.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate results of centrosome hyperamplification in naturally developing tumors of dogs. SAMPLE POPULATION: Tumor specimens from 9 dogs with tumors (rhabdomyosarcoma, osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, myxosarcoma, and mammary gland tumor) and 2 canine osteosarcoma cell lines. PROCEDURE: 3 antibodies for centrosome proteins (ie, anti-gamma-tubulin, anti-BRCA1, and anti-pericentrin) were used for immunohistochemical analysis. Double immunostaining for centrosomes was used to confirm the specificity of these antibodies for centrosomes. Mutational analysis of the canine p53 gene was carried out by polymerase chain reaction-single-strand conformation polymorphism analysis, and expression of canine MDM2 protein was evaluated by use of immunohistochemical analysis, using anti-MDM2 antibody. RESULTS: Immunohistochemical analysis of dog osteosarcoma cell lines with apparent aneuploidy revealed frequent hyperamplification of centrosomes in the osteosarcoma cell lines. Similar hyperamplified centrosomes were detected in the tumor tissues from all of the 9 tumors. The frequency of cells with hyperamplified centrosomes (3 to 20/cell) in each tumor tissue ranged from 9.50 to 48.1%, whereas centrosome hyperamplification was not observed in normal lymph nodes from these dogs. In 8 of the 9 tumors, mutation of p53 gene or overexpression of MDM2, or both, was detected. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Various types of naturally developing tumors in dogs often have hyperamplification of centrosomes associated with chromosome instability. Hyperamplification of centrosomes is a novel tumor marker for use in cytologic and histologic examinations of clinical specimens obtained from dogs.

NTP Toxicology and Carcinogenesis Studies of Rotenone (CAS No. 83-79-4) in F344/N Rats and B6C3F1 Mice (Feed Studies).

Toxicology and carcinogenesis studies of rotenone (more than 98% pure), a pesticide, were conducted in B6C3F1 mice and F344/N rats for 14 days, 13 weeks, and 2 years. Results of the Fourteen-Day Studies: In the 14-day studies (dietary rotenone concentrations of 0-600 ppm in the first 14-day studies and 0-4,800 ppm in the second 14-day studies), rough hair coats and dose-related decreases in mean body weight gain were observed in rats. Rats fed diets containing rotenone at concentrations of 1,200 ppm or higher lost weight. No compound-related toxic effects were observed in mice. Results of the Thirteen-Week Studies: In the 13-week studies (concentrations of 0-1,200 ppm rotenone in feed for rats and 0-50,000 ppm for mice), compound-related effects included lower body weight gain in rats at 150 ppm or more; and bone marrow atrophy and inflammation and hyperplasia of the forestomach in male rats at 300 ppm or more and in female rats at 150 ppm or more. These findings were used to establish the dietary concentrations of rotenone for the 2-year studies. Experimental Design for the Two-Year Studies: Two-year studies of rotenone were conducted by administering diets containing 0, 38, or 75 ppm rotenone to groups of 50 F344/N rats of each sex for 103 weeks. Groups of 50 B6C3F1 mice of each sex were administered diets containing 0, 600, or 1,200 ppm rotenone on the same schedule. The estimated average amount of rotenone consumed per day was 1.7 mg/kg or 3.5 mg/kg for low dose or high dose rats and 115 mg/kg or 250 mg/kg for low dose and high dose mice. Survival and Mean Body Weight in the Two-Year Studies: Survival of control and dosed rats was similar (male: control, 22/50; low dose. 31/50; high dose, 30/50; female: control, 27/50; low dose, 32/50; high dose, 31/50). Mean body weights of dosed and control male rats were comparable. Mean body weights of high dose female rats were 5%-9% lower than those of the controls between weeks 58 and 88. Survival of high dose male mice was significantly greater than that of the controls (male: 29/50; 36/50; 47/50; female: 37/50; 42/50; 45/50). Final mean body weights of dosed mice were lower than those of the controls by 8%-13% for males and 17%-24% for females. Neoplastic Effects in the Two-Year Studies: Parathyroid gland adenomas were observed in 1/41 control, 0/44 low dose, and 4/44 high dose male rats. The historicalincidence of this uncommon tumor in untreated control male rats in NTP studies is 4/1,314 (0.3%). Because these tumors are rare and because the highest incidence ever seen in a control group is 1/50, the increase in these tumors may have been related to rotenone administration. The incidence of subcutaneous tissue fibromas, fibrosarcomas, sarcomas, myxosarcomas, or neurofibrosarcomas (combined) in low dose female rats was greater (P<0.05) than that in the controls (0/50; 5/50; 3/50). These tumors were combined because of their possible common histiogenic origin from fibroblasts or undifferentiated mesenchymal cells. The incidence of those tumors in the low dose females was greater than the historical rats at this laboratory (9/337, 3% +/- 1%) and throughout the Program (50/2,021, 2% +/- 2%). Because of the lack of a significant dose-related trend and because statistical significance was attained only by combining tumors of differing morphology, the subcutaneous tissue tumors in female rats were not considered to be chemically related. The incidences of these tumors in dosed male rats were not significantly different from that in the controls. Hepatocellular adenomas or carcinomas (combined) occurred in male mice with a negative (P<0.02) trend, and the incidence in the high dose group was lower than that in the controls (12/47; 12/49; 1/50). Because this low rate of combined liver tumors is unusual, this decrease may have been related to rotenone administration. Subcutaneous tissue fibromas, sarcomas, fibrosarcomas, or neurofibrosarcomas (combined) in male mice occurred with a significant (P<0.05) negative trend (8/49; 4/50; 2/50). The incidence in the high dose group was signignificant (P<0.05) negative trend (8/49; 4/50; 2/50). The incidence in the high dose group was significantly lower than that in the controls by the life table test (P=0.01). Genotoxicity: Rotenone was not mutagenic when tested according to a preincubational protocol with Salmonella typhimurium strains TA100, TA1535, TA1537, and TA98 with or without metabolic activation by rat or hamster liver S9. Rotenone induced forward mutations in the mouse L5178Y/TK± lymphoma assay without activation; it was not tested in the presence of S9. Results of tests with rotenone in Chinese hamster ovary cells were negative for induction of sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs) in the absence of exogenous metabolic activation (at concentrations at which the chemical was very toxic), equivocal for SCEs in the presence of rat liver S9 (due to a nonrepeatable positive response when tests were conducted up to toxic concentrations), and negative for chromosomal aberrationsin both the presence and absence of metabolic activation. Data Audit: An audit of the experimental data was conducted for the 2-year studies of rotenone. No data discrepancies were found that influenced the final interpretations. Conclusions: Under the conditions of these 2-year feed studies, there was equivocal evidence of carcinogenic activity of rotenone for male F344/N rats, as indicated by an increased incidence of parathyroid gland adenomas (uncommon tumors). There was no evidence of carcinogenic activity in female F344/N rats fed diets containing 38 or 75 ppm rotenone. There was no evidence of carcinogenic activity for male or female B6C3F1 mice fed diets containing 600 or 1,200 ppm rotenone for 2 years. The decreased incidence of liver neoplasms in male mice may have been related to the administration of rotenone. [A rare cardiac tumor: the malignant fibrous histiocytoma. Description of a case].

The present report describes the case of a 61-year-old woman with malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the left atrium originating from the left atrial free wall, operated on in emergency for a suspected large left atrial myxoma that, at the echo scan, was consistently protruding through the left atrioventricular orifice at each diastole and was almost completely occluding the left ventricular inflow, causing signs of congestive heart failure and severe dyspnea. Surgery was performed as radically as possible, but the histological examination of the specimen revealed the exact diagnosis of the neoplasm. About 75% of primary tumors are benign and 75% of these are atrial myxomas. The malignant tumors consist of various sarcomas: myxosarcoma, liposarcoma, angiosarcoma, fibrosarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, osteosarcoma, synovial sarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, undifferentiated sarcoma, reticulum cell sarcoma, neurofibrosarcoma, and malignant fibrous histiocytoma. The long-term results for sarcomas are very poor and there are few survivors after several months from surgery due to the extent of local spread and invasion or because of the frequent distant metastases. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma constitutes about 2% of all cardiac malignancies, which might grow within several localized areas, occasionally in the heart. Echocardiography represents the best examination procedure for both diagnosis and follow-up of patients with cardiac tumors.

Efficacy of mitoxantrone against various neoplasms in dogs.

One hundred twenty-six dogs with histologically confirmed, measurable malignant tumors were evaluated in a prospective study to determine the response to the antineoplastic drug mitoxantrone. Ninety-five dogs had been refractory to one or more treatment modalities (surgery, n = 57; chemotherapy other than mitoxantrone, n = 37; radiation, n = 4; whole body hyperthermia, n = 1). The extent of neoplastic disease was determined immediately before each dose of mitoxantrone was administered (1 to 10 doses, 2.5 to 5 mg/m2 of body surface area, IV) 21 days apart. Each dog was treated with mitoxantrone until the dog developed progressive disease or until the dog's quality of life diminished to an unacceptable level as determined by the owner or attending veterinarian. A partial or complete remission (greater than 50% volume reduction) was obtained in 23% (29/126) of all dogs treated. Tumors in which there was a partial or complete remission included lymphoma (11/32), squamous cell carcinoma (4/9), fibrosarcoma (2/9), thyroid carcinoma (1/10), transitional cell carcinoma (1/6), mammary adenocarcinoma (1/6), hepatocellular carcinoma (1/4), renal adenocarcinoma (1/1), rectal carcinoma (1/1), chondrosarcoma (1/2), oral malignant melanoma (1/12), cutaneous malignant melanoma (1/1), myxosarcoma (1/1), mesothelioma (1/1), and hemangiopericytoma (1/1). Our results indicated that mitoxantrone induces measurable regression in various malignant tumors in dogs.

Molecular analysis of immunosuppression induced by virus replication in lymphocytes.

The relationship between immunosuppression and oncogenesis can be determined by studying the molecular interactions between tumor-inducing viruses and lymphocytes. We approached this study by using a unique system of two genetically related Leporipoxviruses, malignant fibroma virus (MV), and Shope fibroma virus (SFV). MV induces a syndrome of a highly lethal, disseminated myxosarcoma, severe immune suppression, and replicates in lymphocytes both in vivo and in vitro. In contrast, SFV causes a benign fibromyxosarcoma without immune dysfunction and cannot replicate in lymphocytes. Earlier studies demonstrated that transfer of a 10.8-kb Bam HI piece of MV (fragment "C") to SFV resulted in the ability of SFV to replicate in lymphocytes and suppress immune function. These results suggested that lymphocytotropic replication and immune suppression was located on the left side of fragment C. We extended these studies by generating families of recombinants between MV and SFV by using subfragments of fragment C. The resulting recombinant viruses were analyzed for their ability to replicate in lymphocytes, suppress immune function, and produce tumors. Those recombinants expressing MV-like characteristics were mapped by endonuclease digestion. This study demonstrates that recombinants containing a 3.6-kb Nde I subfragment, as well as those containing an overlapping 1.9-kb Hinc II subfragment, were capable of replicating in lymphocytes, suppressing immune functions, and inducing disseminated tumors in rabbits. Our study has therefore identified a portion of MV DNA sufficient to transfer the unique pathogenicity of MV to SFV, and suggests that control of immune suppression and tumor dissemination may not necessarily be mediated by the same viral genes.

Cancer induction in mice by 4-hydroxybenzenediazonium sulfate of the Agaricus xanthodermus mushroom.

4-Hydroxybenzenediazonium sulfate (HBD) was administered to Swiss mice by subcutaneous injection at weekly intervals of two or 36 times at 10 or 2 micrograms per gram body weight, respectively. The HBD given 36 times induced tumors of the subcutis in 22% of females and in 22% of males. The corresponding tumor incidences in the untreated controls were 2% in females and 8% in males. Histopathologically, the neoplasms were classified as fibromas, fibrosarcomas, myxosarcomas and rhabdomyosarcomas. The HBD given two times was, however, without tumor-inducing effect. HBD is an ingredient of the Agaricus xanthodermus, a non-cultivable unedible mushroom, which is closely related to the mushroom of commerce Agaricus bisporus. HBD is now the third compound of the diazonium class to exhibit carcinogenic activity.

Tumor induction by 4-(methyl)benzenediazonium sulfate in mice.

4-(Methyl)benzenediazonium sulfate (MBD) was administered to Swiss mice by subcutaneous injection at weekly intervals 19 or 16 times at 50 micrograms/g body weight. The treatment gave rise to tumors of the subcutaneous tissue and skin. The tumor incidences in the groups with 19 injections were 12 and 6% in females and 12 and 4% in males, respectively, while in the group with 16 injections were 24 and 14% in females and 50 and 4% in males, respectively. The corresponding tumor incidences in the untreated controls were 2 and 2% in females and 8 and 2% in males, respectively. Histopathologically, the tumors were classified as fibromas, fibrosarcomas, myxosarcomas, fibromyxosarcomas, rhabdomyosarcomas and angiosarcomas in subcutis and squamous cell papillomas and carcinomas of skin. MBD is closely related to 4-(hydroxymethyl)benzenediazonium ion (HMBD), an ingredient of the cultivated mushroom Agaricus bisporus. The conversion of HMBD to MBD appears to be a distinct possibility.

Reversal of virus-induced immune suppression.

We studied the immunosuppressive capacity of splenic lymphocytes from rabbits at different stages of progressive myxosarcoma induced by malignant rabbit fibroma virus (MV). Spleen cells taken from rabbits 7 days after virus inoculation proliferate poorly in response to Con A, and suppress normal responses to the mitogen. Those from animals 11 days after virus injection have recovered partially from MV-induced suppression. Further, their Con A responses are no longer suppressed by day 7 spleen cells. Supernatants from cultures of spleen cells from rabbits given MV 7 days previously suppress both antibody-producing and proliferative responses to unrelated antigens. Comparable supernatants from rabbits receiving MV 11 days before sacrifice neither suppress nor augment such responses. Mixing cells from 7 or 11 day MV rabbits with normal spleen cells gives similar results. When supernatants from spleen cell of rabbits with tumors induced 7 and 11 days previously are mixed, the supernatants from rabbits with 11-day-old tumors inhibit the suppressive capacity of those from animals with 7-day-old tumors. Similarly, mixing spleen cells from rabbits given MV 7 and 11 days previously results in culture supernatants that do not suppress normal antibody and proliferative responses. The ability of cells from rabbits given MV 11 days before to inhibit the effects of cells from rabbits given MV 7 days previously does not involve the production of interferon. Thus, despite progressive tumor burden, immunologic recovery is observed in rabbits 11 days after tumor virus inoculation. One factor in this recovery may be the generation of active inhibitors of virus-induced immunosuppression. Similar mechanisms may apply to recovery of immunologic function in other virus infections as well.

Single inhalation exposure to 90SrCl2 in the beagle dog: late biological effects.

Late-occurring biologic effects were studied in beagle dogs that were given graded levels of 90SrCl2 via single brief inhalation exposures and were subsequently observed for their life-span. Due to the soluble chemical form of the aerosol, 90Sr was rapidly translocated from lung and deposited in bone where it was subsequently retained for a long period of time. Radiation-induced lesions were confined to the bone, bone marrow, and adjacent soft tissue. Forty-five primary bone tumors occurred in 31 of 66 exposed dogs. Metastasis occurred from 21 tumors, with the lung being the most frequent site of metastasis (76%). Twenty-seven tumors were classified as different subtypes of osteosarcoma, 14 as hemangiosarcomas, 3 as fibrosarcomas, and 1 as a myxosarcoma. Four carcinomas arising from soft tissues adjacent to bone were also considered to be 90Sr induced. In contrast to bone tumors arising in beagles chronically exposed to 90Sr through ingestion, histologic lesions of radiation osteodystrophy were minimal in this study, indicating that these lesions are not a necessary precursor of osteosarcoma development. The incidences of hemangiosarcomas (31%) and telangiectatic osteosarcomas (11%) in addition to osteosarcomas suggest that the cell of origin for all of these neoplasms is a multipotent mesenchymal cell with the potential for various morphologic expressions dependent on local environmental factors.

Malignant rabbit fibroma virus: observations on the culture and histopathologic characteristics of a new virus-induced rabbit tumor.

The clinical, histopathologic, and cultural characteristics of a newly isolated poxvirus, malignant rabbit fibroma virus (MV), were investigated. MV was isolated from tumors induced by an uncloned stock of Shope fibroma virus (SFV). MV, SFV, and rabbit myxoma virus were compared. Similarly to myxoma virus, MV grew to higher titer in vitro than did SFV and produced plaques rather than foci on rabbit kidney cell monolayers. Unlike the local, self-limited fibroblastic proliferations observed in SFV recipients, MV and myxoma caused a fulminant clinical syndrome characterized by malignant histology, metastases, and supervening fatal gram-negative infection with Pasteurella multocida. MV induced a large, protuberant local tumor and discrete metastases histologically resembling myxosarcomas. Draining lymph nodes contained metastases and showed diffuse cortical hyperplasia. Kupffer's cells were prominent in the liver, and macrophages were abundant in the splenic sinusoids. The lungs and trachea were spared, but the conjunctiva and nasal mucosa showed squamous metaplasia and atypia, with overlying Pasteurella infection and underlying tumor. Myxoma virus infection produced similar mucosal changes, but both of these as well as the epidermis overlying the myxomas showed cytoplasmic virus inclusions. Neither the skin nor the epithelial surfaces overlying MV-induced tumors nor the tumors themselves contained virus inclusions. Thus the tumor syndrome caused by MV differed from other known rabbit tumors. Endonuclease restriction digests showed that the MV genome resembled, but was distinct from, rabbit myxoma virus. Opportunistic infection associated with MV-induced disseminated tumor may be an experimental model for the infectious complications that often supervene in host-tumor relationships.

[Mixed mesodermal tumor of the ovary].

A 68-year-old woman with a malignant mixed mesodermal tumor of the ovary is reported. Her clinical course worsened rapidly and she died 3 months after admission. At autopsy, the pelvic cavity was seen to be filled with a huge tumor mass. Histologically, the tumor contained malignant epithelial and mesenchymal elements. The epithelial component was an adenosquamous carcinoma. The stromal element was comprised mainly of anaplastic, undifferentiated spindle cells. A variety of malignant mesenchymal elements were also present. They resembled rhabdomyosarcoma, liposarcoma, chondrosarcoma, fibrosarcoma, and myxosarcoma . A review of the Japanese literature concerning this tumor is also presented.

Primary cardiac tumors: experience with 25 cases.

The case histories of patients with primary cardiac neoplasms are presented. The mean age was 49.6 years and females predominated (17:8). Nineteen of the tumors were benign (76%), 18 myxomas and one mesenchymal hamartoma. There were six malignant neoplasms; two myxosarcomas, two rhabdomyosarcomas, one skeletal angiomatosis, and one malignant melanoma. The clinical presentation was congestive heart failure in 17 patients and peripheral embolization in five (one patient with both). There were four asymptomatic patients. Antemortem diagnosis was made in 20 patients and five were discovered at autopsy. After 1970, almost 95% of the patients were diagnosed preoperatively while only 14% of the patients had preoperative diagnosis before 1970. Cardiac catheterization and echocardiography were the most useful diagnostic procedures performed but a computed tomographic scan of the heart performed in a patient with right ventricular hamartoma was of great value in delineating the lesion. Twenty-one patients underwent a total of 26 operations but complete excision of the lesion was possible in only 16 patients. Three patients underwent extensive resection and reconstruction. Associated procedures consisted of coronary artery bypass grafts in two patients, mitral valve annuloplasty in one, and a right lung biopsy. Although there was no operative mortality following the original procedure, one patient died after a third operation for recurrence and another underwent unsuccessful emergency pericardiectomy. All patients with malignant lesions died from recurrence 6 to 13 months postoperatively while only three patients in the benign group died and these of unrelated causes. Surgical resection is the treatment of choice for all primary cardiac neoplasms since it is curative in the benign tumors and may prolong life for up to a year with malignant tumors.

[The combined diagnosis of male breast lesions: a review of a series of 748 consecutive cases].

The authors reviewed a series of 748 consecutive male patients referred for breast screening; their average age was 50.5 years. A malignant lesion was detected in 20 patients (18 infiltrating ductal carcinomas, 1 intraductal carcinoma and 1 myxosarcoma). Of 18 infiltrating carcinomas, 17 were found in patients over 60 years of age; pT classes were pT1c in 13 patients, pT2 in 2, pT4b in 1, pT4d in 1 and pTx in one patient. Biopsy demonstrated 92 benign lesions (74 gynecomastia cases and 18 other lesions), whereas 636 lesions were considered benign at direct or cancer registry follow-up. Sensitivity was 85% for palpation, 88.8% for mammography, 93.7% for cytology and 100% for US. Specificity was 95.3%, 94%, 95.6% and 97.9%, respectively. Combined palpation and mammography had 100% sensitivity. Sixty-five of 92 benign lesions were submitted to biopsy, even in the absence of suspicion, for psychological/cosmetic reasons. Negative cytology spared unnecessary biopsy in 9 cases, which were fairly suspicious at other exams. To conclude, we confirm the role of this multimodality clinical-instrumental diagnostic approach, with a special emphasis on the role of US. Cytology was as useful to avoid unnecessary open biopsy in men as it is in women. Male breast cancer has the same semiology as female breast cancer, though with a prevalence of opacities with blurred outline and in the absence of scirrhous-stellate patterns. The diagnostic protocol we used to diagnose breast cancer in women seems to be fully indicated also in men.

Locally recurring primary myxoma of the breast: an evidence of malignant alteration.

Breast is an extremely rare localization of myxoma. To date, only five cases have been reported, including one case of nerve sheath myxoma. In this report, the authors present a 37-year-old female patient who was admitted to the University Hospital for Tumors in Zagreb, Croatia, in 1979, with a 2-month history of gradually enlarging, painless subcutaneous mass in her right breast. On physical examination, a firm, relatively well circumscribed mass measuring 3 x 2 cm was detected in the upper outer quadrant and partly beneath the areola. The mass was freely movable to the overlying skin, causing no retraction. There was no family history of a breast disease or cancer. Patient's past history revealed no major illnesses or trauma. The tumor was removed by simple local excision, but it recurred locally in three episodes between 1981 and 1986. After that, the tumor underwent malignant alteration to myxosarcoma on its fourth (in 1992), and to myxoid liposarcoma on its fifth recurrence (in 1993). No such sequence of events has been reported in the literature so far.
