[Interactive Microcomputer Method of Lipreading (MIMILLE): an interactive microcomputerized method of lipreading].

A computer-aided speechreading assessment and training system is presented. It is intended to be one component of a comprehensive aural rehabilitation program for preretirement adults with acquired mild-to-moderate hearing loss. Each lesson focuses on a different viseme which is practiced using the 'discourse tracking' method. The system allows the evaluation of the basic skills necessary for lipreading, i.e. good visual speech decoding and effective use of lingustic redundancy and transmitter feedback, by evaluating separately tracking rate, strategy, and types of errors.

The interaction of metal ions with nucleic acids. NMR, EPR, CD and spectrophotometric study of the copper (II) interaction with 6-ketopurine ribosides.

The copper (II)-inosine system in water-DMSO solutions was investigated as a function of pH and the molar ratio between the ligand and copper(II) ion by the EPR, NMR, CD and visible absorption spectrometric methods. It was concluded that a simple M.[-N]L copper(II)-inosine 1:1 complex is formed over the pH range 1.4-5.0, while M.[-N]L2 complexes are present in the solutions of pH 5.0-6.2. From pH 6.2 to 7.8 a diamagnetic, hydroxybridged complex M2.(OH)2.[-N]L4 dominates. At pH values of 7.8-9.2 an insoluble, oxybridged species (M.O.[-N]L)n is formed in addition to the soluble paramagnetic M.[-N-1)L4 complex. Above pH 9.1 the nitrogenbridged polymeric complex (M.[-N-1].M[-N-7] )n is formed which is stable up to pH 12.5, and above pH 12.5 the only species found is the M.[-OH]L2 chelate complex in which inosine is coordinated to copper through the two ionized hydroxyl groups.

Membrane Ig-cytoskeletal interactions. I. Flow cytofluorometric and biochemical analysis of membrane IgM-cytoskeletal interactions.

Membrane IgM (mIgM) and mIgD are the receptors for Ag on the surface of B lymphocytes, mIg is soluble in detergent; however, when mIg is cross-linked with anti-Ig, the mIg becomes associated with the cytoskeletal matrix and is rendered detergent-insoluble. By a novel flow cytofluorometric assay and by biochemical analysis, it has been shown that anti-isotype-specific antibodies induce mIgM and mIgD to associate with the cytoskeleton of B lymphocytes in an isotype-specific fashion. The detergent solubility of other prominent B lymphocyte surface proteins, such as class I and class II MHC proteins were unaffected by cross-linking of mIg. A panel of mu-specific mAb was analyzed for their ability to induce mIgM-cytoskeletal association. Although all mAb bound mIgM, only three out of seven rendered mIgM cytoskeletally associated. Further analysis revealed a strict correlation in the capacity of mu-specific mAb to induce capping and to induce the association of mIgM with the cytoskeleton.
