Guide to research on the Rosenzweig Picture-Frustration (P-F) Study, 1934-1974.

Research on and with the Rosenzweig Picture-Frustation (P-F) Study and its precursors, 1934-1974, is presented. Investigations with the original versions of the P-F in English and the parallel, standardized versions in Europe, Asia and the Americas are covered. More than 500 articles and books are organized by topic in a Citation Index giving authors and dates. The available references for a given topic can then be readily located. The major topics include basic (construct) research, reliability, validity, and pragmatic applications. These applications pertain to developmental and individual differences, clinical disorders, antisocial behavior, personnel selection, counseling and therapy, educational and school psychology, cultural and socioeconomic differences, and experimental psychodynamics.

A developmental study of reactions to frustration among Scheduled Caste Indians.

Administered the Indian adaptation of the Rosenzweig P-F Study to 144 Scheduled Caste (SC) adolescent and 158 young adult male Indians. The results show that SC adolescents scored significantly higher on ego-defensive (ED) and extragressive (EA) and lower on need-persistive (NP), introgressive (IA) and imgressive (MA) reactions as compared to the Non-Scheduled caste (Non-SC) adolescents while there was no significant difference on any reaction among SC and Non-SC young adults. SC adolescents scored higher on NP and lower on obstacle-dominance (OD) reaction as compared to the SC young adults. Non-SC young adults were higher on EA, ED, and OD and lower on IA and NP as compared to those of adolescents. The pattern of reactions was ED-EA-NP-IA-MA-OD among adolescents and ED-EA-IA-NP-MA-OD among young adults of both the castes.

Modulation of retroreflection by controlled frustration of total internal reflection.

Retroreflective images are useful in outdoor application for which high legibility is required both during the day and in response to vehicular illumination. To date, all variable message retroreflective images have employed mechanical shutters as the switching mechanism. As an alternative, we propose a method for switching the total internal reflection effect used in retroreflectors by means of pneumatic actuation of surface treated polydimethylsiloxane gel. This approach is both effective and compatible with current large-scale manufacturing methods.

Circular polarization beam splitter that uses frustrated total internal reflection by an embedded symmetric achiral multilayer coating.

A symmetric achiral trilayer structure, which consists of a high-index center layer sandwiched between two identical low-index films and embedded in a high-index prism, is designed to produce equal and opposite quarter-wave retardation in reflection and transmission and equal throughput for the p and s polarization at oblique incidence. Such a device splits a beam of incident linearly polarized light into two orthogonally circularly polarized components of equal power that travel in different directions. A visible (633-nm) design that operates at a 60 degree angle of incidence and an infrared (10.6-microm) 45 degree cube design are presented. The spectral and angular sensitivities of the device are also considered.

Solving the frustrations of crown cementation.

Restoration cementation is a routine procedure, but it commonly is accomplished improperly. In this article, I have discussed several of the most frequently occurring problems with restoration cementation and have made suggestions about how to prevent them.
