[Influences of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism on Chinese Medical Formulas in Jin-Tang Dynasties].

In the Jin-Tang Dynasties, when Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism contended, conflicted and well blent, forming a state of mingled thoughts of the three sects. It exerted profound influences on Chinese Medical Formulas and promoted the academic fashion of compiling books about medical formulas characterized by collecting various formulas especially the simple and proved recipes. Spillover effects of restrictive drug formularies in the statin class: a descriptive study of the Medicaid preferred drug list in Texas.

This study examines whether the implementation of Texas' Medicaid preferred drug list (PDL) influenced, or had a spillover effect, on the prescribing of statin products for non-Medicaid patients. Simvastatin and pravastatin were on the PDL, but atorvastatin was not. Physicians in Texas were categorized into four groups with increasing Medicaid exposure. Compared with physicians with very low, low, or medium Medicaid exposure, the non-Medicaid marketshare of atorvastatin dropped approximately two percentage points and the non-Medicaid marketshare of simvastatin and pravastatin increased by approximately one percentage point among physicians with high Medicaid exposure after six months. Therefore, the restrictive Medicaid PDL in Texas spilled over to non-Medicaid patients.

Formulary implications of management of pulmonary arterial hypertension: Part I--An overview of existing and new pharmacological treatment options.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) represents a significant challenge to physicians, particularly because of its etiology and nonspecific presentation. Unfortunately, the majority of patients are not diagnosed until the condition is at an advanced stage. In this two-part White Paper from The Pharmacy and Therapeutics Society, prostanoids, administered as continuous intravenous or subcutaneous infusions, are the most effective treatments but are inconvenient and costly, owing to complex parenteral administration. The endothelin-receptor antagonist bosentan and the phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor sildenafil are currently the only oral therapies licensed for PAH; however, bosentan has an identified risk of liver toxicity. Newer PAH treatments may offer benefits over existing therapies in terms of less potential for liver damage and more favorable interaction profiles.

The logical structure of the VIDEOFAR drug data base.

The quality of the analyses that can be carried out by a Drug Prescription Monitoring System depends on the completeness and accuracy of the information on drugs. Data quality depends also on the organization of the data base that must be designed to allow higher retrieval power with regard to the information level theoretically contained in stored data. Considering these requirements we developed inside the VIDEOFAR project, starting from the preceding experiences at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, an activity of design and realization of a Drug Data Base whose structure, both logical and physical, is described.

[Conception of programmed and standardized after-care of mammary carcinoma (author's transl)].

Optimal after-care of mammary carcinoma begins with the end of the primary therapy and lasts practically for a lifetime. The after-care consists of several inpatient follow-ups in specially equipped follow-up clinics, of outpatient after-care by the general practitioner and of care by appointment at the treatment center. Standardized diagnostic methods combined with programmed appointments form the basis of an effective after-care for mammary carcinoma. The essence of a programmed and standardized after-care for mammary carcinoma lies in the fact that all participants are forced into a uniform and scheduled procedure by which the observance of a minimum program is guaranteed.
