Clinical evaluation of the sandpaper disk method for removing fluorosis stains from teeth.

The sandpaper disk method for removing fluorosis stains from teeth was clinically evaluated in 93 teeth in 22 patients. A bleaching solution was first applied to the teeth, and then a sandpaper disk in a straight handpiece was rotated on the stained enamel surface. Effects of an alexidine mouthwash on dental plaque and gingivitis in humans over a six-month period.

The primary purpose of this study was to determine the safety and effectiveness of alexidine in the control of plaque and gingivitis in humans. For six months, 207 persons who continued their usual oral hygiene procedures rinsed twice daily with 15 ml of either alexidine (0.035% or a placebo solution. At the 30-day examination and for the remainder of the study, a statistically significant reduction in plaque between the two groups was recorded. Gingivitis was reduced in persons in both the test and placebo groups (the former always had the greater reduction), and a statistically significant difference was found at the 30-day and 90- day examinations. The preponderance of data indicates that, under the described experimental conditions, the alexidine rinse was effective in reducing both indicators of oral health and it may have important therapeutic potentials.

Clinical use of anterior laminates--construction and placement.

Laminate denture teeth that effectively cover stained anterior teeth must be placed carefully so that bond strength is optimal, gingival tissues are healthy, and major problems are avoided. A method of placement is described step by step.

A new prophylaxis instrument: effect on enamel alterations.

A study was made to determine the efficacy of a new jet abrasive tooth-polishing device and its effect on enamel surfaces. Extracted teeth with extrinsic stain were polished with the jet abrasive. Smoothed enamel surfaces were polished with the jet abrasive, a rubber cup with paste, and an ultrasonic instrument. The surface alterations were then compared.

Custom-made veneers for permanent anterior teeth.

The reduction of the enamel on the labial surface of the affected teeth makes the procedure irreversible. However, the procedures provide a superior functional and, more importantly, physiological result while still offering a conservative type of treatment. The uniqueness of the technique is in its ability to restore the physiological relationship of the gingiva and the labial surface, rather than to compromise this relationship by making a bulbous tooth of a greater labiolingual dimension than a normal tooth. It must be explained to the patients who require this type of procedure that the next step would be the complete reduction of the affected teeth and the construction of porcelain jacket crowns.
