Karyotype variation in Psylloidea (Hemiptera) was analysed. Chromosome numbers and type of chromosome sex determination of 153 species belonging to 51 genera and five out of six families (except tropical Phacopteronidae) are listed. Some important cytological characteristics, such as chromosome type, structure of karyotypes, sex determination type, pattern of male meiosis, type of chromosome rearrangements, and B chromosome occurrence, as well as the C-heterochromatin and NOR localization, are discussed. In addition, a comparison of chromosome systems between Psylloidea and other superfamilies of Sternorrhyncha (Aphidoidea, Coccoidea, and Aleyrodoidea) was undertaken.

Because young children with language disabilities frequently are placed in group-care settings, there is a need to make judgments concerning the language environment of those settings. The GCLC is offered as one procedure for assessment of the language environment provided by the caregiver(s) in a group setting. The assessment provides information that may assist in matching the environment to a particular child's needs and may provide a basis for assisting caregivers in improving the language environment and addressing a child's needs. The authors welcome comments from the readers.

After looking for possible organic factors, other psychiatric disorders must be considered, e.g. depression or other anxiety disorders. With respect of the different neurobiologic and psychologic factors of panic attacks the therapy should be complex. Psychotherapy (e.g. behavior therapy) and psychopharmacologic treatments were proved very well. For the general practitioner the treatment with SSRI is very helpful. This approach provides a 60% full remission. For an uncomplicated disorder prophylactic treatment is necessary.

Lege artis procedures, medical standards as well as guideline contents ought to be defined by health care professionals themselves. Therefore the medical profession carries a great responsibility to both continuously optimise diagnostic and therapeutic methods as well as their results and adapt them to medical progress. Standards and guidelines cannot replace a doctor's responsibility towards his patients. They can help doctors to find the right answer but they are not check-off lists. The practical application of an evidence-based guideline must result from a doctor's identification of a certain patient problem. This stage of identification is predominated by the individual doctor's internal evidence which reflects his medical knowledge, practical experience and the information arising from the individual relation between patient and doctor.
A survey of the literature covering the period from January 1983 to December 2002 revealed that 17 genera and 106 species of cestodes belonging to the family Hymenolepididae have been described from birds since the publication of Schmidt's Handbook of Tapeworm Identification (his literature search terminated in March, 1983). Although the family has been revised recently, Schmidt's monograph provides the most recent list of species within the family. This work updates the list of species reported from avian hosts and includes data on the host, and collection locality along with the dimensions of the strobila, the number and length of the rostellar hooks, where applicable, and the dimensions of the cirrus sac as reported in original descriptions.
