The main purpose of the study was the evaluation of the role of various types of the fixed predisposition in the patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD) and arterial hypertension (AH) in different groups of patients to find statistically significant associations between the types of fixed predisposition and risk factors of IHD. Three groups of patients were investigated: 72 patients with AH, 175 patients with IHD ( 74 with angina pectoris and 101 with angina pectoris and myocardial infarction) and 164 patients with IHD and AH. Reliable relationship were found between crude-dynamic type of the fixed predisposition and IHD and AH. No significant associations were revealed between types of the fixed predisposition and well-known risk factors of IHD and AH. On the basis of our investigations it may be concluded that the specific types of the fixed predisposition represent independent risk factors of IHD and AH. Determination of such risk-factors has great importance for the risk assessment of the heart diseases.

Balloon dilatation was used to explore the strength of the left ventricular wall in rats. The rupture pressure of the left ventricle was 645 +/- 22 mm Hg and that of the right ventricle was 247 +/- 15 mm Hg in intact animals. Left ventricular hypertrophy induced by 50% ascending aortic stenosis increased rupture pressure proportionally to the degree of hypertrophy. In transmural myocardial infarction occupying 40-55% of the left ventricular wall volume, the rupture pressure within 10 days of myocardial infarction was the same as that in the intact myocardium. Following 24 hours of ischemia, myocardial reperfusion produced no effects, but after 2 or 4 hours of ischemia it reduced the strength of the heart wall by 50%. It was concluded that early thrombolytic therapy might be a risk factor for cardiac rupture in myocardial infarction.
The status of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and the time course of vasopressin levels were studied in patients with an implanted cardiostimulator. Activation of plasma renin due to renal hypoperfusion in an inadequate stimulation was demonstrated to be followed by a rise in aldosterone and vasopressin concentrations and by an increase in blood volumes. Activation of angiotensin II and vasopressin resulted in higher peripheral resistance. Altered humoral regulation of the circulation retained 6-12 months after cardiostimulator implantation, by maintaining myocardial overload with volume and resistance.
The cardiac hemodynamics and diastolic function of the left ventricle was studied by means of echocardiography in 133 patients with postinfarction cardiosclerosis allowing to distinguish hypertrophic and dilated types of myocardial lesions. It is emphasized that the character of the lesions should be considered in the choice of adequate treatment.

Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC; EC 4.1.1.17) is an important enzyme in the synthesis of polyamines and is associated with growth and differentiation. Insulin stimulation of cardiac ODC has been proposed as a marker of the functional completion of the sympathetic pathway to the rat heart. However, earlier studies, using subsaturating substrate concentrations and a single time point measurement after insulin treatment, have been inconsistent concerning the postnatal age at which significant insulin stimulation of ODC occurs. The present study, using a validated near-saturating substrate assay, examines more thoroughly early neonatal insulin induction of cardiac ODC with respect to both the magnitude and the time course of response. Insulin (20 IU/kg s.c.) significantly increased ODC activity at several time points at each postnatal age measured (days 2, 5, 8, 15 and 22), with maximum ODC activity occurring by 2.5 to 3 hr after insulin injection at all ages. Insulin-stimulated ODC activity was increased over control levels by 86, 84, 87, 150 and 127% on days 2, 5, 8, 15 and 22, respectively. These results demonstrate that age is not a variable in the time of peak insulin stimulation of ODC activity and, in contrast to earlier reports, show that significant insulin induction of cardiac ODC activity occurs reliably across ages in the early postnatal period. The inconsistency of earlier studies may be due to a number of factors, including the use of subsaturating enzyme assays only, known to be subject to several types of error.
