[Testing of mucosa disinfection methods in the mouth and throat. 1. Effect of chlorhexidine gluconate and PVP-iodine on alpha-hemolytic streptococci].
A method for testing a throat antiseptic procedure is described. As indicator bacteria alpha-hemolytic streptococci were chosen. Povidone-Iodine and Chlorhexidindigluconate (0.5% and 0.1%) and aqua dest. as control substance were tested by a mouthwash technique. The best reduction of alpha-hemolytic streptococci could be detected after mouthwashing by 0.5% Chlorhexidindigluconate (1.4 log reduction), whereas by Povidone-Iodine a reduction of 0.85 log steps was achieved.

[Evaluation of the potential cardiotoxicity of propranolol-lithium gluconate association (author's transl)].
The association B blocking agent-lithium salt is used for the therapy of some severe hyperthyroidism with cardiotoxicosis. Separately, both drugs depress intracardiac conduction. However by recording the potentials of the His bundle in anesthetized dogs, a potential cardiotoxicity of this association is unlikely since sinusal automaticity alone is importantly slowed. But, these results need further confirmation in man.

Chlorhexidine gluconate--the solution for dental problems.
Rarely is a chemical agent so effective with so few contra-indications as is chlorhexidine. It has many oral applications, the main ones being the control of plaque and gingivitis. Due to the constraints on oral hygiene in animals, its benefits and indications are especially appropriate to veterinary dental cases. Its full potential is not being realised.
