[Quantitative studies of the collagen content of the human amnion and chorion].

The content of collagen in the amniotic and chorionic connective tissue was determined with the quantitative investigation method of hydroxyprolin. Significant differences do not exist between the amount of collagen in the amniotic and chorionic connective tissue. The difference in the tension stability must be based on the variegating pattern of the collagen fibrils.

Heterotopically induced bone marrow. I. Cellular composition of bone marrow derived from the heterotopic ossicles induced in mice by xenogeneic epithelia of human amnion and dog's transitional epithelium.

Following heterotopic osteogenesis by implantation of xenogeneic epithelia (FL and WISH cell line, transitional epithelium of dog) in mice a biogenesis of hemopoietic tissue among induced ossicles is observed. Precursors and mature forms of all types of blood cells are found in the induced bone marrow. The concentration of lymphocytes in the induced bone marrow is higher, and that of erythropoietic cells lower as compared with orthotopic femur bone marrow. The yield of myeloid cells varied from 0.14 to 3.61 x 10(6) cells per induced bone-containing nodule.

[The amnion epithelium in hydramnion. Light- and electron-microsocpy studies].

Human amniotic epithelium was examined in cases of pregnancy complicated with hydramnios; the light- and electronmicroscopical results were compared with those of epithelium in normal pregnancy. The cells of the hydramniotic epithelium show an increased number of microvilli in apical and lateral cell surfaces. There are also a greater number of desmosomes and enlarged intercellular spaces. In a single case where hydramnios was correlated with maternal diabetes mellitus the amniotic epithelium is characterized by local foci showing cellular dystrophy.

[The toxicologic evaluation of biomaterials. 1. Results of biomaterial tests in cultures of human amnion epithelial cells and human fibroblasts].

Cell cultures are a highly sensitive toxicological model used also for the testing of biomaterials. Beside the safety tests provided in the Pharmacopoeia of GDR cultures from human amnionepithelial cells and fibroblasts are used. The paper reports the results of some methodical investigations concerning the procedure of extraction of biomaterials, the evaluation of test results and the comparison with the results of other biological tests.
