Radiation-induced localized scleroderma in breast cancer patients.

Radiation-induced scleroderma in breast cancer patients appears to occur in approximately one out of every 500 patients. We report four cases that developed within 3 months of conservative breast surgery and postoperative radiation treatment. The reaction was contained entirely within the treatment field and demonstrated the typical features of this condition where the breast becomes erythematous, violaceous, indurated, retracted, and progressively pigmented. The breast tends to soften and become more comfortable over 1-4 years; however, significant induration, retraction and pigmentary changes remain. There appears to be no predictive factors. Radiation-induced scleroderma must be differentiated from cellulitis and recurrent breast cancer.

Chloracne, palmoplantar keratoderma and localized scleroderma in a weed sprayer.

The case of a 53-year-old man who developed chloracne, palmoplantar keratoderma and scleroderma after many years of exposure to a variety of chloracnegens is reported. Chloracne is a rare but important acneiform eruption associated with exposure to halogenated aromatic compounds used primarily in agriculture. However, to our knowledge, the association of palmoplantar keratoderma and scleroderma with exposure to chloracnegens has not been previously reported.

Coincidence of vitiligo, alopecia areata, onychodystrophy, localized scleroderma and lichen planus.

The unique coincidence of five dermatological disorders, which occurred in a 39-year-old patient, is discussed. The clinical and laboratory examination did not reveal a common underlying cause. It is hoped this report will stimulate the recognition of other cases and thus aid in determining whether the coincidence of these disorders is a true association of diseases with a common underlying factor or a rare abnormality.
