A microprocessor computer program. An aid to the International System of Units.

The transition from the scientific system of measurements used in the United States to the Système International creates difficulties for Americans who consult European or Canadian journals. Similar difficulties occur when they want to publish abroad. We have developed a program for the portable microcalculator, which may be coupled selectively to a recorder. Two types of programs are used on 7.5 X 1.5-cm electromagnetic cards. Program P1 is used with the recorder and program P2 with the calculator only.

Friedman and Quade tests: BASIC computer program to perform nonparametric two-way analysis of variance and multiple comparisons on ranks of several related samples.

Friedman and Quade tests are nonparametric two-way analyses of variance which may be used to compare several related samples. The Friedman test is a multisample extension of the sign test while the Quade test is an extension of the Wilcoxon signed-rank for paired samples to the case of several related samples. The Quade test may be more powerful for a small number of treatments while the Friedman test may be more powerful when the number of treatments is five or more. The present program is written in an elementary subset of BASIC and will perform the Friedman and Quade tests quickly on practically every computer programmable in BASIC. It may i.e. be used to analyze biomedical data where the response of experimental subjects to a stimulus is monitored at time intervals.

[Use of data bank on tuberculosis patients and of computer program for clinical and immunological analysis].

Three hundred and twenty patients with pulmonary tuberculosis were clinically and immunologically compared. The findings support the significance and prospects for using a personal computer while making clinical and laboratory comparisons in different groups of patients for a prompt and objective analysis of available data. Comparative evaluation of the informative value of immunologic tests have indicated that in relation to the major clinical parameters of a tuberculous process, differences are great in those characterizing both T- and B-cell, and specific antimycobacterial immunity. The clinical and immunological findings regarding the specific features of a tuberculosis process may serve as the basis for multidimensional analysis and development of criteria for computer-aided clinical and immunological diagnosis of tuberculosis.
