The Danish National Health Informatics Strategy.

The central vision for the future information systems in the Danish health care sector is one of a generally accepted, common information model enabling comprehensive digital reuse of shared clinical data. A generic 'Basic-EHR-structure' has been developed for this purpose by the National Board of Health from a through analysis of the production of clinical information. The strategy contributes to the achievement of the national political goals for the health care sector and describes four important steps to be made by the health care IT systems in order to reach full interoperability and digital reusability of clinical information. Some important initiatives of the strategy are a national terminology server, coordinated implementation of EHRs, and the Public Health Information Portal.

[Content informatics and professional analysis of Hungarian health-related websites].

INTRODUCTION: The number of health-related homepages is increasing and their content is exceeding. The visitor, let him/her be a private visitor or an expert, a patient or relative would like to access relevant data, trust the accuracy and up-to-date state of the web content. It is in the nature of these kind of services, that visitors would share their question and remarks with the authors specialized in a particular topic. Among others these circumstances led to the format and content-related regulation of websites. OBJECTIVE: In a nationwide research the authors examined, to what extent the Hungarian sites meet the requirements of the Health on Net codification and the criteria of the European Union Committee. METHOD: By studying the quality criteria-related websites, the authors examined each Hungarian website to see how the Hungarian pages live up to the regulations. The work concentrates on the content, but it does not neglect functional analysis either. CONCLUSION: The authors conclude, that in spite of shortcomings, home webpages aim to keep the directives of the European Union.

[Medical informatics systems exemplified by the diagnosis of equilibrium disorders].

An interdisciplinary field, namely the differential diagnosis of balance disorders and vertigo, is used to describe how a medical expert system can be developed using modern computer analysis, medical expertise, and human pattern recognition techniques. The advantages, results, and unresolved issues of close cooperation between biomedical engineers and physicians are described. The aim of this cooperation was to ensure that complicated data were presented in simple graphic form and that large amounts of diagnostic data were optimally linked together for the generation of a recommended diagnosis. Similar techniques may usefully be employed in other areas of medicine.

How groups co-ordinate their concepts and terminology: implications for medical informatics.

Conceptual and terminological systems are established and maintained by the communities who use them. This paper reports experiments which investigate the role of communication and interaction in the process. The experiments show that isolated pairs of communicators and virtual communities of interacting pairs naturally converge on their own conceptual and terminological systems when confronted with a common task. The results also indicate that the system converged on is optimal for that particular group engaged in that particular task. These findings are discussed in relation to the increasing use of tightly coordinated medical teams and its implications for getting them to adopt standardized medical terminologies.
