Sibiromycin added to linear chromosomal E. coli DNA in vitro leads to the decrease of bouyant density in neutral CsCl density gradient. This decrease is a linear function of sibiromycin/DNA ratio and amounts to about 32 mg/ml at the ratio equal to 0.1. Binding sibiromycin does not change the degree of hydration of DNA as revealed by centrifugation in metrizamide density gradients. When added to the covalently closed or open circular DNA of PM-2 phage, sibiromycin decreased the bouyant density of these DNA species to a similiar extent. The antibiotic does not induce single-strand breaks in DNA in vitro as follows from the results of ethidium bromide-CsCl density gradient centrifugation of covalently closed PM-2 DNA.

The indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) technique for specific IgM anti-Candida albicans was applied to 158 sera and compared with sucrose density gradient centrifugation. For detection of specific IgM results of both methods were in agreement for 157 sera (99.36%). Specific IgM titers determined with IFA on unfractionated sera followed those found on fractionated sera. The results show that specific IgM anti-C. albicans can be identified and titrated by the immunofluorescent technique.

Cholesterol, phospholipid and apoB levels were determined in LDL precipitated by amphiphatic polymers (Biomérieux kit, Marcy-l'Etoile, France). Intra-assay and inter-assay analysis performed on 4 serum pools were satisfactory. For 113 sera (triglyceride level less than 4.5 mmol/l, absence of VLDL-remnants), the 3 variables were well correlated with those of centrifuged LDL (0.93 less than r less than 0.98); however, LDL-cholesterol values were significantly higher (p less than 0.001), and those of LDL-phospholipids (p less than 0.001) and LDL-apoB (p less than 0.005) significantly lower. The correlations between the 3 constituents studied gave statistically different regression coefficients for the two methods. It is concluded that these precipitated lipoproteins do not seem to correspond to LDL but to "LDL markers".
