More than 40 herbicides have been tested in field trials with valerian over a period of several years. The following herbicidies have proved best suited: chloropham for application in autumn after planting, metobromurone for spraying in the early spring at the commencement of sprouting, nitrofen or a nitrofen-simazine compound preparation for application in May. The utilization of a sequence of herbicides led to a 90% reduction of the weed cover and a 65% reduction of the manual work needed for weed control. The yield and the essential oil and valepotriate contents of valerian were not impaired. The results from residue analyses are presented.

It has been discovered through investigation across the country that, thus far, the Radix Euphorbiae Ebracteolatae is derived from 12 species (varieties, forms) of 3 families. Their classification characters are discussed and a key is given in this paper.
Eleven species of Dendrobium grown in Sichuan Province were studied including their classifications and distributions. All of them are used as the merchandise Shihu. Among them, there are 3 species which are found in Sichuan for the first time and 2 new species whose medical effects are described here in. Problems about the exploitation, utilization, quality standards, etc. of these resources are preliminarily discussed. A key for the identification of all these 11 species has been compiled and presented.
This paper reports the distribution, habitats and medical usages of 14 species of medicinal Trichosanthes produced in China. Among them, there is a new species named Trichosanthes mianyangensis. A key for the identification of all these 14 species has been compiled and presented.
Through investigation on original plants and commercial products of the traditional Chinese drug Jiuyanduhuo, the authors have ascertained its botanical origin and present medicinal usage, and found out that Aralia cordata is the main species of Jiuyanduhuo, and A. fargesii is another species that has come into use due to short supply of the main species, and A. henyri is used only in Sichuan and Hubei Provinces. Principal identification features of the original plants and crude drugs with 2 keys have been given, and TLC identification for 3 kinds of Jiuyanduhuo have also been carried out.
