This article addresses controversial issues associated with two different subjects: reliability of a genetic susceptibility test to identify individuals predisposed to developing periodontitis; use of subantimicrobial-dose doxycycline in the treatment of periodontal diseases. Each subject is assessed with regard to its practical application in the management of patients with chronic periodontitis.
World's knowledge is but imperfectly intelligible to thinking beings by binding Possible with Reality of the experience meaning what resists them (matter or form) as sensible organ, while time perception remains out of feeling. Although the Reason seeks coherence in its seizing of the World, only consisting in experiences, yet the various experiences are not ordered a-priori towards coherence as an aim. The Reason ascribes the experiences to be pre-classified according to three modes: Continuity-Successiveness-Reversibility, connecting a physical fact (temporarily) to a thought fact (classifying). This motion towards a coherent understanding of the World proceeds by leaps over representations in three ways: 1-induction without requirement nor warranties. 2-analogical interpretation in which the middle term offers a slight validity. 3-demonstration where experiences get authentified but needs term successiveness undoubtedly marked in time. In case of a time mark deficiency, the demonstrative way gets out of warranty. The subject loses his free choice between Possible and Reality, causing psychosis. Yet the thought, getting improper to appreciate and correct the less gap between itself and experiences becomes else: thence, filtered by matter, it responds to chemotherapeutic strategies. The various symptoms in Psychosis can be brought to a selective deficit of the experience's pre classifying such as: -lack of "reversibility" troubling the course of thoughts, causing hermetism etc... -lack of "continuity" making easier experience materiality causing hallucinations. -defect of "successiveness" supporting the Possible for loss of the Reality causing delusion conviction.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
The paper begins with a description of two conceptions of the transference found in the literature: transference as distortion and transference as plausible conjecture based on the signals received by the analysand from the analyst. The plausibility of the transference phenomenon in the Freudian conception of the transference is then reviewed. The author continues by considering the analyst's function as bait and how it is related to the stripping down of reality practised by the analyst. A brief clinical vignette is given to illustrate these propositions. To conclude, there is a discussion of the paradox of the reality sense, the transference and interpretation, based on the ideas of Matte-Blanco, mental functioning being considered in terms of bi-logic.

Interpretation is a product of compromise formation that requires optimal use of the analyst's aggression to be an effective analytic intervention. Aggressive aims useful for the interpretive act are problematic for analysts and have led both to clinical difficulties and to various theoretical reactions against considering interpretation essential for analytic progress. In analysis, diverging aims of analyst and patient are highlighted in connection with the analyst's function as interpreter. The interactions between patient and analyst pertaining to interpretation provide insights into the patient's intrapsychic conflicts that may be less apparent in other material.

Obsessive love and delusional jealousy as persistent mental disorders, are well-known but rare psychiatric conditions, the prevalence of which is estimated to be less than 0.1%. Delusional jealousy should not be confused with exaggerated "pathological" jealousy, which is characterized by excessive suspicion and possessiveness on the part of individuals who, as a rule, suffer from considerably disordered self-esteem. As a paranoid development, delusional jealousy occurs in particular among male chronic alcoholics. As in all delusional disorders, trivial events are evaluated with unshakeable certainty as proof of the correctness of the delusive notion. Obsessive love is seen predominantly in women. In the differential diagnosis, other mental disorders such as schizophrenia, manic or organic brain syndrome must be excluded.

In 5 investigations we examined a new procedure for assessing children's understanding that messages arise from speakers' internal representations. 3- and 4-year-olds watched the enactment of a message-desire discrepant story in which a speaker doll, who believed wrongly that bag A was in location 1 and that bag B was in location 2, gave a message referring to the bag in location 1. In a message-desire consistent control condition, the speaker had a correct belief about the bags' locations. Children frequently judged correctly in the discrepant story that the speaker (who specified location 1) wanted the bag in location 2, and judged correctly in the consistent story that the speaker wanted the bag in location 1. That is, young children attended to the speaker's internal representations, and not just the real-world referent of the message, when judging what the speaker wanted. In one of the investigations, children performed better on the message-desire discrepant task than on a false belief task. We discuss why they might find it particularly easy to take into account false belief when inferring desire on the basis of behavior.
Two demented patients, one with primary degenerative dementia and one with multi-infarct dementia, each showed attachment to a soft toy animal, which fulfilled the criteria of a transitional object as described by Winnicott. This could be regarded as a regression phenomenon, according to the basic pathogenetic concept that cerebral disease causes a dissolution of the highest central nervous functions.
