[Autografts and tooth transplants. Operative indications].

In order to evaluate the prognosis in tooth transplant procedure the literature on this subject was reviewed. The survival of the periodontal ligament is necessary to prevent ankylosis and root resorption. In order to obtain optimal clinical results, the following guidelines are proposed: preparation of the recipient site 2 weeks prior to graft placement, preservation of intact Pdl at time of extraction, rapid reimplantation of tooth in new socket, short term contention (2-3 weeks); endodontic therapy 8-10 weeks after tooth transplantation.

[A pilot study on the effects of Mini-SG F attachments on periodontal health of the abutment teeth used in free-end partial removable dentures].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of Mini-SG F attachment on periodontal health of the abutment teeth in restoring free-end removable partial dentures (RPDs). METHODS: The periodontal status of the abutments in restoring free-end RPDs was longitudinally observed with periodontal indices commonly used in clinics, and a group comparison was made using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). RESULTS: The stability and retention of free-end RPDs retained by Mini-SG F attachments were excellent during the whole observation course. Compared with the periodontal status of the first and the second abutments before restoration respectively, no significant differences in gingival indices, plaque indices, periodontal probing depth, alveolar bone resorption levels of those were shown 6 months after restoration. The mobility of the abutments was significantly reduced when they were splinted together. CONCLUSION: Mini-SG F attachments used in free-end RPDs have no evident adverse effect on periodontal health of the abutment teeth, and the way of splinting the abutments is advantageous to their long-term health and stability.

Effect of occlusal splints on the electromyographic activities of masseter muscles during maximum clenching in patients with myofascial pain-dysfunction syndrome.

Integrated EMG activities of masseter muscles during maximum voluntary isometric contraction with and without full-arch maxillary stabilization splints were observed in patients with MPD syndrome having occlusal interferences and in healthy subjects having no occlusal interferences. The masseter muscle activity was more significantly reduced in patients with MPD syndrome during maximum clenching with splints than in those patients without splints. In healthy subjects, such a significant difference could not be observed with and without splints. This finding suggests that the elimination of the occlusal interferences by means of occlusal splints could reduce the degree of sensory information from the periodontal receptors during nocturnal clenching or grinding. This could result in a decrease in masseter muscle activity giving rise to muscular relaxation.

[Clinical use of osseointegrated two-phase implant systems].

The Intramobile Cylinder (IMZ) two-stage osseointegrated implant system is unique. The IMZ implant system incorporates a Derlin, intramobile element (IME) which simulates the periodontal ligament of the natural tooth unit. This shock-absorbing element distributes stress and functional load in a physiological manner so that the semi-edentoulous patient may be reconstructed by splinting to the adjacent natural teeth. This article discusses the IMZ implant system, its surgical insertion and its clinical use.

Adjunctive orthodontics as part of interdisciplinary treatment: a case report.

A patient who originally only required gnathologic and prosthetic treatment received orthodontic treatment, which led to a technically less complicated treatment. The removal of teeth with a dubious prognosis improved the long-term prognosis of the dentition. The space closure resolved the anterior protrusion and crowding and was mainly performed through anterior retraction reducing the dentoalveolar protrusion. The buccolingual root control made it possible to generate a better periodontal status in relation to the maxillary canines. A flat splint used as a retainer assisted the prosthodontist in establishing the structural position of the mandible and the intercuspation. The importance of a close interdisciplinary collaboration is stressed.
